Although it’s only been a few months, it seems like forever since we have been able to enjoy some hockey.   Even though it’s only the preseason you can go Bovada to and bet on who will make the playoffs this season already.  Of course you could bet on the Ducks or Lightning to make it in or the Coyotes or Leafs to miss them but the odds for them, and teams like them, are terrible.  Below I will go over a few teams that some believe are on the bubble for making the playoffs.  But be sure to head to Bovada for the complete list of all 30 teams.

Will They Make The Playoffs?

  1. Boston Bruins –
  2. Oh how the mighty have fallen.  The Bruins were once a team that was a Stanley Cup contender each year but now after missing the playoffs, for the first time in 7 years, they made some huge and questionable moves to their roster. They traded away a young superstar in the making in Dougie Hamilton and top 6 mainstay Milan Lucic is now on the Kings.  Both were traded for mid-first round draft picks.  Also gone are Carl Soderberg, Reilly Smith and Greg Campbell.  And their Captain Zdeno Chara is 38 and his best days are behind him. The bad moves and an aging roster doesn’t equal success. Bet that the Boston Bruins Won’t make the playoffs for 2.55 odds

  3. Edmonton Oilers –
  4. The Oilers once again landed the top overall draft pick which is their 4th 1st in the last 6 years.  Although I don’t agree with constantly rewarding a bad team with the best prospect, they got the best young star to come into the league since Sidney Crosby in Conner McDavid. I can’t see him being enough to carry this team into the playoffs.  They did get better on D with Andrej Sekera and in goal with Cam Talbot but they still have lots of work to do.  The Edmonton Oilers Won’t make the playoffs for 2.00 odds at Bovada

  5. Winnipeg Jets –
  6. The Jets surprised a lot of people last year with their success in the regular season.  They got swept in the first round by the Ducks but just making it there was amazing.  The made no moves in the offseason and are hoping that the continued progress of their young players will be enough to get them back in.  Their D is arguably the best in the league and biggest with Dustin Byfuglien, Jacob Trouba and Tyler Myers leading the way.  Sometimes not making any moves is the best thing for your team and for the Jets I believe that to be the case.  Bet that the Winnipeg Jets Will make the playoffs for 1.95

  7. Detroit Red Wings –
  8.   For the past few years I have expected that age would catch up to the Red Wings but I have been wrong each time.  They fact that Datsyuk and Zetterberg continue to perform at a high level is awesome. In the offseason they added offensive defenseman Mike Green and two time Cup winner Brad Richards to center the 2nd line.  The biggest news in the offseason for the Wings was letting their coach of the last 10 years walk when Mike Babcock took on the unenviable job of coaching the Leafs.  But the Wings have Jeff Blashill now behind the bench and he is more than capable of coaching this team as he was the coach of their farm team and knows and has coached many of the players.  The Red Wings  Will make the playoffs for 1.74

  9. Calgary Flames –
  10. Probably the biggest surprise of last year, for me at least, was the Flames making it into the playoffs. They added young Dman Dougie Hamilton to only strengthen their already strong blueline and now have one of the best in the league with a healthy Giordano, Wideman and Brodie forming the top 4.  Their young players will only get better and a healthy Sam Bennett could and should challenge for the Calder Trophy.  They added strong two way winger Michael Frolik to help their penalty kill and to play in the top 6.  Bet that the Calgary Flames Will make the playoffs for 2.30
