It was quite the night in hockey last night with some really good games. Unfortunately not a good night for the bets.
We had the Leafs/Devils to go over but Andersen stepped up big in that one. He pulled off 42 saves for an incredible shutout. I’d noticed that he was getting a bit better lately but that was an absolutely incredible performance from him.
Tampa thumped the Stars 6-1. I wanted to take that one but Lightnings home results going into that one weren’t the most impressive thing in the world.
Habs lost to the Coyotes 5-4. What a brutal result that was for Montreal. So many teams like that in the NHL right now – they have the quality but they’re just not performing. Capitals are another one. They got absolutely thumped by the Avs and Grubauer goes 0-5-1 after that beating.
The Knights pulled off a big surprise with a 5-2 victory over the Canucks to put the Knights at 11-6-1. They looked like that team that went on that big home winning streak – where they just outwork their opponents and keep going for the full 60. I’d said yesterday that was a simple enough pick to make. Really the only negative with picks like that is if the team you’re backing share your confidence. It seemed like that with the Canucks who looked like they thought if they just showed up, that was good enough.
Well deserved victory for the Vegas Knights there.
2 games tonight. The Rangers hope to bounce back as they visit the Blue Jackets, and the Red Wings hope to get a winning run going as they take on the Buffalo Sabres.
I like the Jackets to beat the Rangers tonight but not enough to back them. Their offense has been absolutely brutal lately. I do think after that loss the Rangers will struggle to get a run going again but I’m not going to back the Jackets in the hope that their offense has something going. I’d rather wait till they actually do.
I’m also going to avoid the Sabres/Wings. Wings missing a fair amount of players is concerning. I’d like to back them as their offense looks to be playing good but I’m not convinced. After the Sabres beat them a couple of weeks ago, that’ll give Buffalo more confidence here and they could take the win.

As I said, Leafs aren’t all about offensive now. They’re playing some great hockey at all levels, being very strong on defense as well. Andersen was huge, but I still not believing on how do they lost that one!

I also like CBJ to win, but like you @Graeme not enough to back them. Neither the over or under. Tortorrlla has been doing some changes on the lines in order to find the way of the net, so the goals can come anytime. Their defense is doing great with Bob being the winner maker on the last 2 games. I kinda of like the Rangers TTU 2.5 but not at even odds. He minimum would be 2.30…
About Red Wings vs Sabres I like the over but again not enough to back it. It’s only a 1st sight without a stats analysis, lines, etc.
Instead of betting today I’ll take the time to seek value on tomorrow games.

Good morning from my home town of Cortland, New York, located near Syracuse. I am here to spend the Thanksgiving holiday with friends and family. Since I moved to San Diego my tolerance for the cold isn’t what it used to be and I’m freezing my ass off. But it’s good to be home.
Last night my combination of bets left me even. If it weren’t for a couple of parlays based on Tampa PL it would have been a bad night.
I’m taking Blueshirts to win and the under in the NY-CBJ match. I like NYR because they have a great record (6-2 after allowing 4+ goals) this season after getting spanked in the previous game. As Lundqvist goes, so goes this team. He is a great competitor and a true professional who will react to a beating by coming back huge. The Rangers are currently playing with a lot of confidence and their offence is clicking. With that combination I see them getting the W. CBJ is a talented team with a great goalie but their offence has been sputtering (6 goals last 4) with no signs of breaking out. It won’t be easier to score with the King standing tall and the NY blueline making up for being leaky in Chi-town. 6 O/U is a gift from the bookies with two of the best goalies facing each other and one team who can’t find the back of the net.
In the Sabres-Red Wings game I am taking the under. As Graeme pointed out, Red Wings are pretty banged up and they’ll struggle to get points. Johnson won’t make a difference. Sabres have scored only once in 3 of their last 5 and have scored 11 in their last 5 so they aren’t exactly an offencive juggernaut. It’ll be a boring game with less than 6 goals.

oh how the preds let me down
Hard day in the NHL tip wise again. I had Montreal and Tampa down as my favourite picks, and Montreal decided to be a sieve after going 2-0 in the first, going 2-2, then 3-2 up, then 3-3, then 4-3 up to eventually losing 5-4. Canadiens are on my no bet list from now on unless something changes; they’re just too inconsistent. I also tipped Kings, Canucks, Sharks and Jets with only the Jets paying out. Unfortunately I ultimately took Sharks, Canucks, Canadiens and Lightning – at least lightning dampened the loss. Had it again not been for the NBA with my picks of Boston +7 and Rockets -8 (when I took them they were at -8) I would be a little underwater. I’ll start including briefly my NBA tips, just if anyone is interested, at the end of my NHL tips.
Tonight is a hard one, and I’m sitting it out on the NHL tonight but these would be my choices.
Rangers ML- despite not posting the best away record, their offence is still putting in quite a few goals and I reckon thats the difference here. As tight as Columbus have been defensively, their offence is MIA- posting only 1 goal in normal time in their last 4 games. Meanwhile, Rangers have scored 3 goals or more in their last 9 games. After a hard fought loss to the Blackhawks I see the Rangers pushing hard for the win here.
Wings ML- They’ve got a lot of players missing, but so do the Sabres. They’re 3/5 in their last 5 and were unlucky to lose to the Bluejackets in overtime in one of their 2 loses. They picked up an extremely dominant victory against Calgary who came into the game rolling on all fronts- winning 8-2. They also succeeded in shutting out the Oilers in a 4-0 victory. Contrast that with Buffalo who have lost 4 of their last 5, with their only victory coming against a Capitals side who seems to throw the towel in on games they really should win (Avalanche last night case in point). Sabres only have 3 away wins, and I see Detroit rolling with their confidence now.
NBA Tips-
Wizards ML/ -5 – Washington have won 4 of their last 5, and that included a dominant win against Miami (102-93), they’re back on their home court here and see no reason why they’ll drop the ball this time. Miami has only posted wins against teams who are below the .500 mark, with their offence and defence lacking against bigger teams.
Detroit Pistons ML/ +1 – I really love the odds on this- Detroit have looked great, winning 5 of their last 6 and barely losing to the Bucks last night. They posted a 17 point win against the pacers a few days back, and I would feel silly not taking Detroit on these odds.
Leans – Cavs and Jazz- I’m not sure about taking Cavs on the -6 as some games they choose not to show up, and haven’t been great at home (2/6) but they do have momentum on their side winning 4 of their last 5 (with the loss coming against a very good Rockets side)- the Clippers are without a win in their last 7 games. Cavs will want to correct their home form at I do think they’ll cover the spread, but consider the ML on a parlay instead. —- Jazz will need to get an away win at some point and I think it comes here against a team they beat just a few days back and have rocked historically (winning 4/5 in Brooklyn) . The Jazz have simply looked better than the Nets.
Nice write-up. Agree on the NHL tips and enjoy the NBA tips. I’m dropping a little on both those teams and a parlay with them as well.
Agree to no bets, and my leans are for a Rangers win (based on recent trends) and UNDER for Detroit/Buffalo. The latter pair seem to have a cross-town type of rivalry and Buffalo’s been winning the recent ones or been keeping it close regardless. Buffalo beat Detroit this season already, 1/0. Look for a game that doesn’t closely follow season stats, and Detroit isn’t likely to walk out of it with a 6-2 win. Buffalo seems to only score more than one or two goals if it plays a high-scoring team or a team that scares the daylights out of them, and Detroit isn’t such a thing. But the rivalry seems real.
Tomorrow looks interesting for Over/Under opportunities. Heard on the radio last night in a hockey talk show that Montreal’s goalie Price may be navigating through a possible career-ending injury situation. Something very unfortunate is going on there. Toronto takes them on tomorrow. Watch for the Leafs to be up to win against Montreal for the second time this season. Matthews still not confirmed for tomorrow.
Habs are also being affected by an illness. Last season many the teams affected come back with a win. Tough to imagine that happening with Habs vs Leafs, but…
It’s been noticed that Montreal is getting out a good number of shots on net recently, it could be because they’re aware their savior between the pipes isn’t available. However, Toronto is also a high shots-on-net producer and if you ask me, Toronto’s shots have been of the more dangerous type so far. I’m not calling it any picks yet, but that game already is a lean for a Toronto win. Montreal just lost to Arizona while at home. Them’s serious red flags there!
I do agree, it’s an auto lean on Leafs. Let’s wait for the lines. I think Matthews will be in. He has been practicing.

LOVE how active the comment section has been here. I haven’t had much luck in NHL this year but I’ve been seeing the NBA games pretty well lately. Thought I’d drop em here if anyone is interested.
Det +1 Pistons are coming off a tough loss to Mil where their PG’s shot a horrid 22%. I think they’ll be motivated and at a virtual pickem I think you pick the better team. Also the Pacers have had a pretty rough schedule of constant home/away/home/away so I don’t think being at home gives them much advantage tonight.
Wash -5 Second game of a home and home series and I see the wizards sweeping this. Miami is looking tired. Whiteside is their only consistent player lately which isn’t going to win you games. I trust Wall & Beal to get it done. I like how aggressive Beal has been driving to the paint.
OKC & SA UNDER 101 1H: I don’t love playing 1st or 2nd half lines much but the numbers really back this up. I know okc plays faster in the 1h but this is in SA and they should set the pace. SA is holding teams to under 50 in the 1h in all their home games so far this season. SA possessions per game for the 1h are 29th in the league so they love to start slow. I’ll go for it.
Minn -6 I love Tom Thibodeau and the style that he gets his guys to play. They’re only 4-4 on the road this year but Dal is 1-8 so I’m not too worried about that. Twolves are coming off back to back wins including an ATS win vs the Spurs (who beat them 12 or 13 times in a row prior to Wednesday). Karl Anthony Towns should have a monster game against that weak ass mavs D. I think they come into this game feeling really good about themselves and easily win by double digits.
