We managed to go 1-1 with the tips yesterday.
We went with over 6 in the Rangers vs Penguins game and the Pens won 5-2. Crosby scored his 399th career goal.
I had also gone with the Blackhawks to beat the Red Wings but I couldn’t have been more wrong. The Wings won 4-0. The Hawks head into there bye week in 6th place in the Central.
The Flames won their 7th straight game when they beat the Hurricanes 4-1. Dougie Hamilton scored twice for the Flames.
The final game of the day saw the Canucks beat the Wild 3-2 in OT. After missing 21 games Sutter returned and scored the OT winner for Vancouver.
It’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day in America so there are some early games. Will get these out quick so people will have times to discuss.
Stars vs Bruins Betting Tips:
The Stars have a bad road record. They are 8-11-2 when playing away from Dallas. Lehtonen is getting the start in this game. He is 5-5-1 on the year.
The Bruins have been playing amazing hockey recently. The are 8-0-2 over their last 10 games. On the year their home record is 14-5-3.
With the Stars away record vs the Bruins home record I like Boston’s chances in this game. They have looked incredible during this run and Rask has been the best goalie in the league since the start of December going 11-0-2

The Ducks are a hard team to predict. They will be without Andrew Cogliano who was suspended. This will be the first game that Cogliano has missed. His streak of 830 games ends which was the 4th longest in league history.
The Avs are on a 6 game win streak and are playing at home. It’s hard to bet against them with their streak and home ice. Plus they’re underdogs.

Scott none of us thought Wings had it in them, and I had picked them versus the Pens the night before. Today I’m completely with Scott, and the last time that happened both picks were wrong lmfao. So I really hope to God that it isn’t the case today. My luck has been pretty awful lately, and the Flames have been the only team keeping me just about afloat this week. I would really like to end the bleeding today, and I think it ends with three home team wins and one away win.
POTD- Bruins Reg (70%)- The bookies are smacking the odds down on the Bruins right now, and its now impossible to get value on ML wins with them so reg is the only option. This might be a misconceived opinion, but after 2 OT games in a row I’d be surprised to see todays game go to OT. The Bruins have gained my personal respect, they look hungry and I’ve only seen one other team have that same sort of hunger and thats Vegas. A hard factor to predict, but one I’m considering more and more in my picks. Although Tampa have been dominating games, we have seen games like in Ottawa and against the Flyers where they looked bored. When teams have that hunger there seems to be a serious change in their fortunes; Calgary has that hunger right now and its visible in their games and I’ve benefited from jumping on it. Buffalo had that hunger against the Jackets after a bust up in training, and they came out on top. I’m going to be looking for that hunger (by watching games) more often where I can. Just four of Boston’s last 20 home games have gone to OT, and two of those were losses back in October; whilst only 5 of the Star’s last 20 road games have gone to OT. Of the last 20 h2h meetings between the side only three have gone to OT. Using basic stats that suggests a 15%-22% chance of it going to OT today. I happy risking that for the extra money, as in OT it’s just as likely you’re going to find yourself on the losing end regardless of the side you pick. Dallas has won just 8 of their last 20 on the road, and despite the majority of those wins coming against firm opponents, I see greater consistency and hunger in this Bruins side who have won 14 of their last 20 games. I love the Bruins play style (especially watching the little spins and tricks of players like Pastrnak and Marchand) and I would love to see Ben Bishop be as leaky as an incontinent 90 year old in goal tonight.
Avalanche (70%) – I have been kicking myself over ignoring the Avs lately, when I’ve found believed they have had it in them to win their games. They keep getting offered at great underdog prices even though they’re playing so well right now. The Avs are without a doubt (talking factually) the most improved team from last season, and are looking good at all ends right now. Bernier has allowed only 6 goals in his last 5 games, whilst the offence has scored 21. The Landeskog, Mackinnon and Rantanen line is among the most elite in the league without a doubt, and I don’t see them slowing down. The Ducks are healthy again, and this is by no means an easy contest for the Avs, but the Avs of years past are gone for now, and they’re being underestimated by a lot of teams. The Avs have already beaten the Ducks this season, and although some key players are back for the Ducks, the Ducks are going against the best Avs we’ve seen for seasons and in the best form of the season. Both sides are in a position to get into a wild card spot tonight, so I don’t expect either side to take this lightly. That being said, the Avs go on a long road trip after this and know they need to make the most of their last opportunity to rack up home points. The Ducks are another side who I recognise for their hunger, but right now I see a hell of a lot of hunger in this young Avs side out to prove a point. The Avs tick the boxes here – superb form, strong defensive and offensive stability right now, at home, in a position to take a playoff spot, healthy and fantastic value. I have taken them on the ML but I’m actually putting some on the reg win too what with only two games between the sides in their last 20 going to OT (cause again the value is amazing).
Leans (for now)-
Kings – the Sharks allowed 5 goals against the Coyotes and couldn’t hold a lead at all. Their defence was awful and their goaltending pathetic. Kings have had trouble in this matchup and haven’t been in the best form either, but if they’re ever going to beat the Sharks, its when the Sharks can’t keep the puck out the net.
Islanders- coming off two solid wins, and up against a Habs side who are without their 1st line centre and still without a defence. Did any of you see the number of breakaways and turnovers they have the Bruins? The over 5.5/6 is also always a solid pick for the Islanders and I will almost certainly play it, even if I don’t pick a side.

Analyzing stats and reading previews is essential before you make a bet but taxing on the brain so you could consider taking a few days off. Take it easy:) ?
You may be right. I think a few weird results have thrown me off. I’ve not trusted myself, and hence why I didn’t take Canucks the last 2 games when I wanted to and Avs in their last few. Today I’m trusting what I feel and think – and thats Avs and Bruins 🙂

Khudobin is also the far superior goalie. He wants his No 1 spot back, and had been putting in good performances. I don’t see Khudobin listed as confirmed. Where did you find this?

Dallas has scored 2 goals or less in 12 of their last 20 road games. Just something to be aware of.

I’m with you JH, I think 5.5 is too low. Both teams are going to be highly motivated. Stars bc they are coming off loss to Avs and want to get W on first road trip. Plus return of Segs can’t be dismissed, he’ll bring up entire teams level of compete. Bs are playing in front of home crowd on a matinee which will be highly motivating. They should bring Mo from Habs game back and will not be flat. The TT for Bs is 3.5. Khudobin is the better goalie, but I still like the over, 5-3 is my guess

No doubt the Bruins are the favourite. Just to add to Scott’s comments, the Stars are 8-11-2 on the road. Bergeron is the faceoff master but Stars Faceoff stat is 53% and SOG against is 29.8. In their last 9 gms, Stars have bounced back 3 times from 2 consecutive losses. Motivation is key. In their last game, they lost 4-1 to the Avs; were tied up until the 3rd but gave up 3 unanswered so they’ll be hungry. Lehtonen hasn’t played since Dec 15 but beat the Isles & Rangers on their last road trip. IMO, Stats aside, the team with the most ‘puck luck’ will win:)

If you’re feeling worried then you’re betting too much. Your maximum unit bet should always be something you are comfortable with losing.

Totally aware of this. More confident on the Pistons bet (which I tailed) so I’d a loss of total 0.6u if that one comes in and the other doesn’t.
I also don’t follow the Bruins too closely (I probably should given recent form), plus Rask isn’t playing which gives cause for concern too.

Manchester united handicap -1: i think utd will sweep stoke city today, stoke is having a lot of troubles lately they dropped out of FA cup against conventry cmon really?, sacked the manager as well, also they are having troubles with injuries and they are playing utd at old trafford . United on the other hand conceded only 5 goals at home, it feels they got back on the winning tracks again after the away win at everton on the back of lingard who is just unstoppable right now.
Boston bruins: i dont know much about hockey, picked it up from here i took win or draw so its a bit more safe.
Chris Paul +22.5: cp is hot right now, they are playing clippers for whom he played last season, harden is out, i dont think they can stop him, especially with teodosic as a starter, i could say more about this but its just down to feels.

Detroit handicap +2-5: detroit are very solid at home not losing many games i think they only lost 5? Spurs win: spurs are finally getting players back from injuries, all the starters are healthy now i dont see them losing against hawks whom are having injury problems and are tanking as well..

Boston is 14-5-3 at home and are one of the hottest teams in hockey.
Boston is 7-2-1 at home against the Western Conference.
Boston is 6-3-1 L10 against the Stars and 3-0 L3.
In their last 10 games overall Boston is 8-2 and those two losses came in OT/SO. They haven’t lost a game in regulation since the middle of December!
Stars goalie Ben Bishop isn’t great on the road, he is 4-8 with a 3.37 GAA and a .890 save percentage on the road. Against the Bruins he has gone 4-9 with a 2.82 GAA.
The Bruins have now won 18 of their last 24 games and are sitting alone in 2nd place in the Atlantic Division. The Bruins have outscored their last 11 opponents 47-19.
Bruins goalie Tukka Rask has been unreal for the B’s in the L12 games. Yeah looking good: Khudobin allowed one goal on 28 shots in the Bruins’ win over the Hurricanes on January 6th. In his last three starts, Khudobin has gone 2-0-1 while stopping 94 of 98 shots (.959 SV%). The Stars come to town this afternoon averaging 2.95 goals for per game (13th in the NHL) and Khudobin has gone 4-1-1 with a 2.82 GAA and .904 SV% at TD Garden.

Very slow start for the B’s. No offensive output in stats zone at all to start the game. 2 PP and came up empty. Always seem to come out with low energy in matinee games. I expect a better 2nd period.

Dallas hasn’t lost in regulation now in 4 straight bounce back games after a win. 2 at home 2 on the road. All against teams that were playing good hockey too.
The growth of that team have been really interesting.. a potential black horse in the playoffs this year. And they’re still without a top 4 dman in Methot and Hanzal battling some nagging injuries trying to find his groove.
Also the only team that’s managed to shutout the Knights in Vegas.

I personaly love LAC ML today! They’ve been looking so good last few games, and i got a feel they’ll carry on with it against a also strong Houston Rocket that just got into a streak again after a long rusty period. The odds is just too nice to not give it a shot. I also support the MTL – Isles over, Isles games rearly go under atm… doesnt see that happening today either!
