That was quite the night of hockey last night.
The Pittsburgh Penguin showed some real mettle in a tough battle with the New Jersey Devils. That was good to see from them as we approach the playoffs.
We saw a similar performance from the Habs. That was a game me and Scott discussed in length yesterday and we were curious if the Habs could bounce back from their slump simply by returning home. They were able to do so in a close game as they beat the Blue Jackets 3-2.
We had the Flyers vs Lightning game to go over 6.5 goals and it did so although we required a bit of luck with 4 goals in the third period. Flyers didn’t fight like expected until late on.
We expected the Leafs to put up a fight and get past Binnington. They were able to do so but unfortunately it wasn’t until the third period that they started scoring. Disappointing to see as the Leafs usually rise in these spots.
Oilers snuck a point against the Coyotes with no McDavid. That frustrates me greatly because with the West being such a mess I have a sneaky suspicion they’re going to stumble their way into the playoffs via a wild card spot. Stars and Wild blew the spot last night leaving it extremely close.
My WHL system won again with the Tri-City Americans, to go a whopping 31-9 for the season.
It’s Wednesday, February 20th and we’ve got 4 games on the board. Blackhawks and Avalanche look to pop into a wild card spot with wins tonight against the Red Wings and Jets respectively.
Blackhawks vs Red Wings Betting Tips:
Blackhawks are one of those teams where when their name comes up on the schedule at the moment, it’s a case of “is there any reason not to back the over?”
Not finding any major reasons.
These two just played in Chicago where the Blackhawks won 5-2. Home or away the Blackhawks are piling in the goals. The biggest issue I see is the Red Wings weak goalscoring record. They’re ranked 25th in the NHL. With the trade deadline coming up they may not be fully focused on this game too.
They had a great performance against the Flyers despite the loss, setting up some excellent chances. It’s a case of as long as they put in a similar performance the goals should be flying here.
Looking at the metrics, the Red Wings home performances since the all star weekend have seen them create a lot of chances. If they can keep that up this one should go over. I do have slight reservations though in regard to whether they do keep that up or not.

Flames vs Islanders Betting Tips:
This was one where initially I was going to skip it but giving it another look I think the over is worth a play.
Flames are in the midst of some high scoring games at the moment. Their offense is firing on all cylinders which is nice to see. Islanders are also playing well and are feeling good after that Oilers game.
Just feels like one of those games where both teams deem it an important win. Islanders have really stepped it up on defense of course but I like the Flames offense when they are hot. They always look so confident.
