It was a busy night of NHL action yesterday and we had a bad night going 0-2 with the tips.
6 of the 13 games needed extra time to be completed so it was a close night for almost half of the games.
I went with the Hawks to beat the Wild but this didn’t happen. It was a close game though when the Hawks scored twice in the 3rd to tie it and force OT where Dumba scored giving the Wild the 3-2 OT win.
We also had the Oilers to beat the Coyotes. The Coyotes won 3-0 snapping their 5 game losing skid and the Oilers had their winning streak stopped at 5 games.
As expected, the Panthers vs Jackets game was a close one. There was no goals scored in regulation time and Werenski scored for the Jackets in overtime and the 1-0 win.
The Sharks beat the Flames 3-1 and Joe Thornton had 2 assists becoming just the 14th player in NHL history to reach 1500 points.
The Capitals beat the Kings 4-2. Ovechkin scored a hat trick in less than 5 minutes in the 3rd. He now has 40 this season, 698 for his career and this was his 27th career hat trick. So yeah he’s a pretty good hockey player.
Only 2 games tonight and no tips.
Game Thoughts
Maple Leafs vs Rangers
Both teams have questions about their goaltending situation. The Leafs lost their starter Andersen who left the game Monday against the Panthers with what is being called a neck injury. The Rangers are still using 3 goalies with Lundqvist, Georgiev and Shesterkin.
Both teams are in the top 10 in GPG and both are also in the bottom 3rd in goals against per game.
They played each other twice in December and both games hit 9 goals, Leafs won 6-3 on December 20th and the Rangers won 5-4 in overtime on December 28th.
I was going to go with Over in this game but I then saw that it was 7. And with the goalie situations I will just avoid this game altogether
Bruins vs Blackhawks
The Bruins have won their last 4 games and currently sit in 1st place in the Atlantic and 2nd in the Eastern Conference and League.
The Hawks played yesterday and lost but at least gained a point when the need all the can get.
With the Bruins being one of the best teams in the league this season and riding a 4 game streak into this it would seem like a safe pick to go with them. But the Hawks find a way to keep themselves in games. With their backs to the wall its hard to pick their games and I’ll just avoid this game.
