Hi guys,

It was a winning night to start the NHL season, which is always nice.  Moreso for you guys if following our bets than for us.

We had Lightning in regulation as a tip at 1.86 odds when we went over it all on Monday and locked in our bet then.  But due to a miscommunication on our part, the tips weren’t posted to the site until Tuesday.  At that point the odds had drastically changed and we ruled that one a no play at the new odds.

Lightning lost their first opener in 7 years, and it was just a dismal performance from them.  No excuse for that.

Kraken vs Knights we had the over in at plus odds and that was a great game with some fun controversy.  Good to know ESPN commentators don’t understand what a kick is!

Seems like a good time to mention place those bets at B365.  Feels like at least once per season we’ve profited due to it.

A much better night of hockey for us with 5 games.  With it so early in the season, the odds are tough to use.

I’ll go through each game and see what we have.

Canadiens vs Leafs Betting Tips:

The Habs surprised everyone when they made it to the Stanley Cup Finals.   They will have their work cut out for them here without Price and Weber

The Leafs will be without Matthews which will hurt them but they are a deep team and they should be able to handle the Habs.

But anytime these longtime rivals meet its anyone’s guess as to who will win it.  I’ll avoid this game and instead just watch what is sure to be a great one.

Rangers vs Capitals Betting Tips:

This should be a good game.   The Rangers picked up Ryan Reeves, Barclay Goodrow and Sammy Blais to make them harder to play against and to stop them from getting physically outworked.

The Capitals didn’t really do much in the off-season,  they seem to be happy enough with their roster.  And when you have Ovechkin, Carlson and Samsonov then why not.

The last 4 games between these teams were high scoring;  Caps win 4-2, Caps win 6-3, Rangers win 5-2 and Caps win 5-4.

Blackhawks vs Avalanche Betting Tips:

The Hawks picked up Fleury to be their starting goalie.   I love Fleury and he has had an amazing career.  He has been in the playoffs in each of his last 15 seasons and I hope he can make it 16 as a Hawks fan.

The Avalanche will be without MacKinnon who tested positive for Covid-19 as well as coach Jared Bednar.  Devon Toews is also out.

On paper this seems like a game the Avalanche will win.  But without MacKinnon and Coach Bednar and with the Hawks getting Toews back, adding Fleury,  Seth Jones and others I want to wait and see how this team does before I bet on, or against them.

Canucks vs Oilers Betting Tips:

These teams made a bunch of moves in the off-season.

The Canucks added Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Conor Garland, Jaroslav Halak, Luke Schenn and Jason Dickinson.  The Oilers added Zach Hyman, Duncan Keith, Cody Ceci and Warren Foegele.  They will look like completely different teams.

I’ve never been a Canucks fan and that’s because of the heated games they used to play against the Blackhawks.  But this year they could be deadly.  Their additions plus continued growth from Pettersson, Hughes and Demko and I can see them becoming a powerhouse in the not so distant future.

With so many new faces between these teams I’ll avoid a tip for this game.

Jets vs Ducks Betting Tips:

The Jets are a team that often gets overlooked but they are a solid club.  Their top line of Scheifele, Connor and Wheeler is money.  Adding Schmidt and Dillon will help their defense and Hellebuyck is one of the best in the league.

I expect the Ducks to be at the bottom of the standings for the whole season. I love Getzlaf but his best playing days are behind him and he would benefit from moving to a contender for another shot at a Cup.  They didn’t do anything in the off-season to help the team and instead will continue to use the draft for their rebuild.

Christopher from GermanyD

Hello from Germany again, in addition to my two missing bets from yesterday’s acca (Caps and Leafs +5,5 game totals) I only do Jets and Ducks +1,5 in first period.

Good bets, everyone – bring us the money!

To WIN: Winnipeg
No other bets > Leafs/Habs is unpredictable, I’m often confused as to what the Leafs are, and tonight I don’t know what either team is. How will the Habs do this year? Vancouver has more offensive talent than people realize and maybe an OVER bet there is the option, as I expect an offensive cornucopia on display. Rangers/Caps may become Fight Night, and off that. Colorado is without their top player and has always been inconsistent in the regular season, so I can’t trust them for anything. Chicago is upgrading. My one bet hinges on Winnipeg showing up determined to win, instead of drifting. Anaheim should be seen as an important source of 2 critical points, for any team not called Edmonton or Vegas.

Thoughts on the Lightning losing at home last night: Penguins without top players were an unknown offensive identity to Tampa, and Penguins played hard. It’s always been a source of bad luck when the home team starts the evening with a banner raising. Tampa likely looked at the Penguins without top players and took it easy for a while. Last night it was a surprise, and this morning I’m thinking, “oh crap, I should have seen all that!!!!!!!!!”

Graeme

Honestly I don’t think Pens is one to look back to with regret. Past champions on their opener are about 50/50 – no real consistency there. And while the “yeah Tampa could take it easy” deal applies – they’re generally a team that will wake up quick. That sort of overconfidence was definitely a factor when we considered it though which was why we said 1.80 would be the bare minimum.

I think it’d be a lot easier to look at yesterday and not bet Tampa up to say 1.90 as opposed to betting the other side.

Jets 1p ml at -135 is looking juicy

Graeme

My minor concern there is if jets come out complacent while ducks come out with something to prove it could start messy for Jets. In that sense I would prefer the full game bet. Just a thought to play devils advocate though. I haven’t looked up any data on it

Magnus

Hey guys, I’m in a competition. Which team do you think out of all of tonight’s matches score the most goals ? Not the most scoring game, but team :))

Graeme

Well I wouldn’t overthink it too much. Having a quick look at the games I’d say Lightning or Leafs, and the bookies seem to agree.

Only thing is it’s been homer city so far (other than Tampa). So you may wish to go with a home team. That’s a tough call.

Personally I’d go with Tampa and hope they respond big.

Magnus

Thank you!
