We won our tip yesterday when I had the Jackets to win against the Sens and they did 4-1. Roslovic scored twice for the Jackets.
The Wild picked up a much needed win when they beat the Bruins 4-2. Kaprizov scored twice for the Wild. The Lightning beat the Kraken and the Flames beat the Devils.
The trades are slowly starting. The Habs traded Ben Chiarot to the Panthers for a 1st, a 4th and a prospect. That’s a big haul that the Habs received here and the draft picks are going to help them down the line.
The Kraken traded Jarnkrok to the Flames for a 2nd, a 3rd and a 7th. The Panthers traded Vatrano to the Rangers for a 4th.
Another full night of hockey here with 10 games.
Capitals vs Jackets Betting Tips:
As I mentioned yesterday the East playoffs are pretty much set but the Jackets, of all teams not in, are the closest. They are 11 points back of their opponent tonight.
The Caps have earned points in their last 6 games going 5-0-1, the Jackets have won 3 straight.
Tough to call here. The Caps are rolling and they know that they are playing the team that could overtake them in the standings if they go on a skid. The Jackets have to go all out for the rest of the season if they want to keep their slim playoff hopes alive.
I thought of going with the over but that’s 6.5 which I’m not comfortable with so have to skip this game.
Stars vs Canadiens Betting Tips:
The Stars are in 9th place in the West but are only 1 point back of the 8th place Knights who are in the final wild card spot. The need to snap out of the funk they are in as they have 4 games in hand and could give themselves some distance on the Knights.
The Habs are in last place overall and have started to move some pieces including Chiarot.
If the Stars want to get back on track then this game here is a good opportunity to do that.

Canes vs Leafs Betting Tips:
This is going to be a great game between 2 of the top 5 teams in the league.
The Canes are in 1st in the Metro and have a 6 point lead over the 2nd place Rangers. The Leafs are in 3rd in the Atlantic and 3 points behind the 2nd place Lightning.
The odds are close on this one with the Canes the slight favorites.
With Matthews on the final game of his suspension you would have to think that this game should be an easy Canes win. But the Leafs won their last game without him and had a guy making his first NHL start where he picked up a shutout.
Kallgren is starting again so he could continue his great play or shit the bed in his 2nd career NHL start. I have to skip this one.
Predators vs Flyers Betting Tips:
With the Wild winning last night they switched spots with the Preds in the standings.
The Preds have gone 7-3-0 over last 10, the Flyers 3-5-2 including dropping their last 3.
This would seem like a good spot to take the Preds but it would need to be in regulation and that’s the kind of shit I have to avoid when dealing with Nashville.
Islanders vs Rangers Betting Tips:
The Rangers won the only game between these teams back on November 24th 4-1. The are in 2nd place in the Metro but tied with the 3rd place Penguins with one less game played.
The Isles have played the fewest games in the league but they have dug themselves such a deep hole that it’s not going to matter.
These are usually good games but with the way both teams are playing I have to think that the Rangers can come out of this game as winners. The Rangers are at home too where they have gone 20-5-3.
Rangers win incl OT/SO

Penguins vs Blues Betting Tips:
Another game where the odds show just how close this game should be.
The Pens have gone 5-4-1 and are on the road where they have gone 19-7-4. The Blues have gone 5-3-2 and are at home where they have went 20-7-3.
There’s no really advantage I can find for this game.
Sabres vs Oilers Betting Tips:
The Oilers are the favorites here and I get that. The only concern for me is that Smith is expected to start for them and he hasn’t been good where he’s on a 4 game losing streak with a 4.44 GAA and .837 save percentage.
The Sabres have won 2 in a row but are still way out of the playoffs 28 points behind the final wild card spot.
To get any value on the Oilers it has to be the handicap and I’m doing that with Smith expected.
Sharks vs Kings Betting Tips:
I would like to say that the Kings should win this game. They are in 2nd in the Pacific with a 4 point lead over the 3rd place Oilers.
But the Sharks seem to have the Kings number. They have played them 3 times this season, all in 2022, and won all 3. If the Kings want to be considered a good playoff team then they need to be able to beat a team like the Sharks.
To get any value on the Kings we need to take them in regulation but I can’t back that with the way the previous games between them have gone.
Wings vs Canucks Betting Tips:
The Wings have lost 6 in a row and are 21 points out of the playoffs, so basically eliminated. The Canucks are in 10th in the West and only 1 point back of the 8th place Knights. They are playing well of late going 4-1-1 over last 6.
The Wings are coming into this game off of a loss against the Oilers 7-5 where they were down 4-1, came back to tie it at 4, then have it tied 5-5 before the Oilers pulled away. So they may build off of that effort for this game which has me a little reluctant to tip the Canucks here.
Panthers vs Knights Betting Tips:
The Panthers have started to add pieces to help them in what the hope is going to be a deep playoff run. Chiarot is not a point producer but he plays a style of hockey that will help a team during the postseason. They also moved Vatrano for a draft pick as they are so stacked offensively that he never had a shot at play top 6 minutes.
The Knights are still in the playoffs but just barely. They have lost 5 straight and the teams they lost to aren’t very good including the Flyers, Sabres and Jackets. They need to fix what’s going on as they are getting chased by 4 teams who are within 3 points of them. It’s only a matter of time until they pick up a win and get back on track and when they are playing one of the best teams in the league, a win would be a huge boost for them.
To WIN moneyline: Carolina and Vancouver
Lean: Tie in regulation: LA/San Jose
Canes play Washington tomorrow and will strategize how to handle that. Vancouver is playing very well and need points quickly. LA would be the favorite but their offense is weak and those two teams go to overtime quite often.
