It was a big day for the home teams yesterday in the NHL playoffs. All four home teams got the win, meaning all four series are tied 2-2.
We could see similar tonight in three of the games but this would require the road teams winning.
We’ll also likely see the end of the Nashville Predators.
I was very disappointed in the Hurricanes yesterday. Even moreso when Lindholm and McAvoy were announced out and they were still able to get the win. That was frustrating.
Going to be an interesting one tonight with those road teams all needing big wins.
Rangers vs Penguins Betting Tips:
Scott: The Penguins were up 4-1 after the 1st but the Rangers scored 3 unanswered in the 2nd to tie the game. The Pens scored 1st in the 3rd and added 2 empty net goals for the 7-4 win.
The Rangers need to grab a lead and hold onto it. The Pens are no pushover and with Domingue starting they realize they need to score often to ensure they have the best chance at winning when starting their 3rd goalie.
The Rangers need to win this game or face going down 3-1 in a series where they were favored.

Graeme: Sportsbooks have this one as a coinflip. Man – I am concerned about these Rangers. Penguins missing Jarry have to put DeSmith in, then have to go with Domingue – and Rangers are 2-1 down? Yikes.
Thing is looking at it all – man, I don’t even know what the Rangers can do to adjust. The Penguins at this point are just looking like a better team. It’s those high danger chances too. Penguins are racking up an absolute TON of them and then converting. As an example in the last game Rangers had 17 and Penguins had 16 but Pens scored 4 to Rangers 1.
One thing looking at the advanced metrics is both teams are crushing it offensively. Not just in goals but how much they are generating etc. My one concern with backing the over is Shesterkin. We all remember Game 1. Dude was phenomenal and can change a game. But I think I’m fine with backing Over 6 goals incl OT here. The offensive output through the three games is top notch with lots of conversions.

Panthers vs Capitals Betting Tips:
Scott: The Caps won game 3 and the Panthers must be starting to feel the pressure. They won the Presidents Trophy and are now down 2-1 and are still in Washington for another game.
With the way the played this season it would be a real shame to have them be eliminated in the 1st round but that’s the joy of the playoffs.
I want to take the Panthers but the Caps are showing that they can’t be taken lightly and are up to the task of scoring with the top scoring team during the regular season.
No Bet
Graeme: I was able to back and win on the Caps last game. There’s certainly value in backing them again here. But this is the playoffs where for whatever reason we see teams trade wins. And I think there is a very good chance the Panthers are able to do just that.
After winning on the Caps last time I’m happy to skip this one. I do believe there is some value on the Caps tonight, and absolutely zero value on the Panthers. The thing is no-one was expecting much from the Caps and now the Panthers have this pressure on them. No Bet.
Flames vs Stars Betting Tips:
Scott: The Flames are down 2-1. The Stars are getting great goaltending from Oettinger and Pavelski can still snipe at 37 years old.
I thought that the Flames would have no problems with the Stars and took them to win the series in 5 games. That’s not happening. The Flames need to win game 4 to tie the series and regain home ice.
Until the Flames can find a way to get pucks past Oettinger its hard to back them.
No Bet
Graeme: Dallas Stars stepped up at home. Bookies have them as underdogs here by about the same price.
Unlike the Caps/Panthers game, I’m happy to take the value again on the Stars.
The Flames offense just cannot get going at all. They had their best CF, FF, SF, xGF, HDCF, SCF in that last game in the entire series. This was the production they have been looking for. And they still lost!
I’ll be honest – I do think they will get going at some point. It’s hard not to see it happen. But man that last game has to mess with their heads.

Avalanche vs Predators Betting Tips:
Scott: The Avs won game 3 but it came at a cost. Kuemper took a stick in the mask that got through the cage and hit him in the eye. Thankfully for the Avs his injury wasn’t serious. They are rolling right now and their big names are putting up numbers with MacKinnon scoring 4 goals already and Landeskog scoring 6 points in the 3 games.
With the Avs having a chance to sweep the Preds and earn some extra time off before the 2nd round I see no reason why they don’t win this game with ease. They have outscored the Preds 16-6 so far.

Graeme: Will we see a gentlemans sweep? I don’t think so. I think we see the final nail in the coffin tonight for the Preds. The Avs are just too good for them especially without Saros.
Interestingly in that last game none of the Preds goals came from high danger chances, which was the magic during the regular season.
Anyway in spots like this you never know how a team will perform. Either they just give up and don’t show up – or they fight to the death. If the latter then it’s the over. If the former well Avs could still go over by themselves. Either way No Bet.
