A busy night last night and I had 2 tips and went 1-1.
The win was the Devils to beat the Flames which they did for the 7th straight game. This was a close one but thankfully the Devils hung on for the win 3-2. Kadri scored first but the Devils scored twice in the 2nd. They both scored in the 3rd.
I had the Wings to beat the Canadiens in regulation but this game needed a shootout. It was the Habs winning 3-2.
The Flyers beat the Blues 5-1 and for the Blues this was their 8th loss in a row.
The Knights beat the Leafs 4-3 in overtime for their 8th win in a row.
The Oilers beat the Lightning 3-2 but Kane had to leave the game in the 2nd when his wrist got sliced open by a skate. Immediately there was a pool of blood. He is in stable condition and is expected to be ok. Scary situation that was and hopefully he makes a full recovery.
The Isles beat the Rangers 4-3, the Coyotes beat the Sabres 4-1 and the Canucks beat the Sens 6-4.
A slower night for us with only 4 games.
Hurricanes vs Panthers
This should be a good game between two of the stronger teams in the league.
The Canes are 8-3-1 and on the road here where they have gone 5-1-1. The Panthers are 7-5-1 and at home where they have gone 3-0-1.
Both teams are in the middle of the league in goals scored per game. The Canes are 3rd and the Panthers 1st in shots on goal. And for SOGA the Canes are 2nd and the Panthers 7th.
I want to take Canes here as they have been good on the road but it’s the Panthers and they are a team that can’t be ignored.
Canucks vs Canadiens
Both teams played and won last night.
The Canucks have been playing much better than they were but still I am reluctant to back them until they can be more consistent. The Habs win last night snapped their losing streak at 3 games and brought their home record to 3-3.
I have no confidence in either team yet this season and for that reason alone I have to skip this game.
Penguins vs Capitals
Always a good game when these teams square off. It’s Crosby vs Ovechkin.
The Pens are 4-6-2 and in 7th in the Metro and the Caps are 6-6-2 and in 6th.
The Pens have lost their last 7 games and are on the road where they have gone 1-5-1. This seems like a spot where we should back the Caps with the Pens struggling but this is a game that both teams will be looking to win so the Pens may show up.
The last 4 games between these teams went as follows: Caps win 6-3, Caps win 4-3 in OT, Pens win 4-2 and Caps win 6-1.
With the history these teams have its easy to ignore on ice success. I have to follow that trend and go with the Over here.

Wild vs Ducks
The Wild lost last night 1-0 against the Kings. The Ducks also lost their last game 5-3 to the Panthers.
Both teams are scoring less than 3 goals per game which isn’t going to help the team pick up wins. The Wild have cut down on the amount of goals they were allowing and now are ranked 23rd in goals allowed with 3.42. The Ducks are ranked dead last in GAPG with 4.62.
With the amount if goals both teams let in it would seem like an Over play but either team can score so that’s off the table.
I have to skip this game. There is nothing I like and when looking at the numbers for each team I don’t see an advantage.
I’m in awe at how many NHL teams are in malfunction. Predictability is out the window. I suspect play-through injuries help explain it, but what else, not sure.
Tonight, Leans only:
Full game OVER 6.0: Anaheim and Vancouver games
I’m not springing for the 6.5 on those games, but 6.0 looks interesting. I’m more certain about the Vancouver/Montreal game, as both teams can run up numbers on offense and defense. Both teams are on Over streaks and Over is in their matchup track record. Both teams take a lot of penalties and have imbalanced specialty teams that should facilitate scoring.
Minnesota gravitates to more moderate lower scores, while Anaheim is a strong “Over” factory, so it’s risky, and the Wild are on a back-to-back. Their track record suggests the Over. Again, both teams take a lot of penalties and have imbalanced specialty teams. Over is 14-6 in the Wild’s last 20 games playing on 0 days rest, but does that work tonight?
