Man does it ever feel good to be sitting here writing NHL Tips again.

This past 3 weeks has been a mess for me. To give an example – while I have been keeping up with NHL in terms of watching the games or highlights, I’ve not been able to keep up to date on my internal database of metrics etc.

I finally got to that yesterday – and I had to update everything since November 15th! Had to plow through weeks of data yesterday just to get all caught up. I haven’t even glanced at advanced metrics in that time.

It was primarily due to two trips – one to San Francisco, then one to Covington, Georgia. And then any spare time I had at home was focused on work. YouTube premium is a godsend as I ws able to download highlights and then watch them wherever including on the flights.

Anyway I feel a bit out of the loop, but a chill 4 game schedule to ease into it is fine with me. And the good thing is I have zero serious trips planned until March when I go to Ohio to watch the Blue Jackets play. I love travel, but I love the boring routine of life more!

Let’s look at the games today:

Panthers vs Stars:

Stars come in off the back of that bizarro series againset Tampa. Games like that are why i never ever touch the second leg of a matchup like that.

Neither team really jumping out at me here. Panthers goaltending has been big for them this season so far and they have been very reliant on that, but the Stars are able to score willingly.

And looking at similar teams with metrics like the Panthers, Dallas generally haven’t had problems scoring.

The home/road split isn’t that much of a concern based on how both teams perform. I feel there is slight value on the Stars here but just a bit hesitant to pull the trigger. From what I am seeing though they should be able to get the goals even with Bob in net.

Lightning vs Penguins:

Eh. I feel very iffy about both teams. Tampa really aren’t backable right now and they are very streaky. I could see them building from that Stars winf or sure. They recently pllayed here and Pittsburgh got the win so I could even see Tampa trying to sell it a a revenge tour.

I really think Tampa get the win here. But it just feels irresponsible backing them after that 4 game run prior to Monday.

Blues vs Knights:

Just played. Pass.

Oilers vs Hurricanes:

Oilers are starting to do stuff. They face a Canes team with a bit of better form over last couple of weeks. These two played November 22nd and the Canes ran out 6-3 winners.

I like the Oilers here. Home metrics are better than road metrics for them. They’ve got some momentum, and you’d have to hope with it being a six game homestand that they are fired up for this one.

I haven’t touched the Oilers in a bit. Time to get burnt by the candle again I guess. But on paper it looks fine. God I can’t believe I am taking the Oilers on my first night back in 20 days.
