4 games yesterday.

The Oilers best the Wings 3-2 in OT with Draisaitl scoring twice, including the winner, and adding an assist.  The Devils snapped their 4 game losing skid when they beat the Ducks 6-2.

The Habs beat the Flyers 4-3 holding off a late push from the Flyers.  The Avalanche beat the Sens 5-4 in a game that had 7 goals in the 3rd.  Colton scored for the Avs and now has 8 goals in 9 games this season.

A busier night with 8 games

Oilers vs Jackets

Both teams haven’t shown me personally a reason to back them.

The Oilers are 4-4-1 and in 5th in the Pacific.  McDavid and Draisaitl are about a point per game but the are missing out on the production that Nugent-Hopkins and Hyman usually give them.

The Jackets are 3-3-1 and in 6th in the Metro.  They are scoring well ranking 5th in GPG but that hasn’t translated to wins for them.

If the Oilers didn’t play last night I would take them but it has to be in regulation and 2 of their last 3 and 3 of their last 6 needed overtime so I’m passing.

Panthers vs Sabres

Panthers are on the road here and they have gone 4-2 as the away team.  They are 6-3-1, have won 2 in a row and are at the top of standings in the Atlantic.

The Sabres are 4-4-1, have won 3 in a row and are in 3rd in the Atlantic.  At home they have gone 3-2-0.

They played once and the Sabres won that one 5-2.  Statistically speaking these teams matchup well with the Sabres having a slight edge.  But with them already playing once I could see the Panthers looking for payback here.

Predators vs Lightning

This is a huge game.  It’s the return of Stamkos to the city he had called home since joining the league.

The Preds are starting to turn things around winning 3 in a row after dropping their first 5.  The Lightning are 5-3 and in 2nd in the Atlantic.

Statistically speaking the Lightning are much better ranking 4th in GPG vs the Preds 27th.  Lightning 9th in GAPG and 5th in SOGA vs the Preds 24th and 13th.

I would think the home team Lightning win but emotions will be high and lots of hugs and high fives which will surely throw the games flow off.

Leafs vs Jets

The Leafs, which is no surprise, are falling apart.  They are 4-4-1 and have lost their last 3 games which has them sitting in 4 in the Atlantic.

The Jets are unstoppable right now.  They are 8-0 and rank 2nd in GPG, 5th in shots, 1st for the power play, 2nd in shooting percentage and 2nd in GAPG.   That right there will tell you all you need to know.

I want to take the Jets here but the Jets aren’t going to go undeafted this season and when they lose I could see it being against a team like the Leafs who are struggling and in desperate need of a win to build momentum.

The last 3 games for the Leafs they have allowed 4, 5 and 6 goals.  Last 4 for Jets had high totals 8, 7, 5 and 9.

I expect the Jets to come swinging here but Leafs need to end this losing streak and pick up some much needed momentum.

Sharks vs Utah

Ya there really isn’t anything I like from this game.

The Sharks are still looking for their first win of the season and have lost 9 straight.

Utah has dropped 3 in a row and are 4-4-1 on the season.  Before the 3 game skid they had 4 of their 5 games go to extra time.

Blackhawks vs Avalanche

The Hawks have lost 4 in a row and the Avalanche have won their last 5 including last night.

The Avalanche should win this game but their 4 wins were against powerhouse teams; Utah, Kraken, Sharks and Ducks.

Would have to take the Avalanche -1.5 and as we can see from their recent results I’m not confident in that.

Flames vs Knights

This should be a good game.

The Flames have lost 2 in a row but are still a solid 5-2-1 on the season.  The Knights have won 3 straight and are 6-2-1 on the season.

I’m concerned with both teams.  The Flames have dropped their last 2 but the 2 before that needed extra time.  The Knights ran their win streak to 3 games but the last 2 were against the Sharks and the Sens.

I do see the Knights winning here as they are at home where they have gone a perfect 6-0.  They are scoring more than expected but have looked good so far this season.

Hurricanes vs Canucks

Both teams have started to turn things around.

The Canes are 5-2 and have won 3 in a row.  The Canucks are 4-1-2 and have won 4 straight.

The Canucks are scoring a little more than the Canes are but the Canes are ranked 2nd in shots on goal.  Defensively both teams have been solid with the Canes ranking 4th in GAPG and 2nd in SOGA and the Canucks 7th and 9th.

Tough to call a winner here.  One win streak will be snapped.

I love to see a great team tuned up, highly energetic and consistent. That’s the Winnipeg Jets. They started the season like they practised at full speed all summer, and then hit the heavy weights in the gym. Fast, sharp passes, great at team control of the puck, excellent shooters, supreme goalie and strong defence. The incoherent Leafs will be glad to go home tonight, from the sting. They’re greatly outclassed in every way tonight, and every Canadian team is up for beating the Leafs, LOL. The only other very good team the Leafs have played so far was the Rangers, and they lost to the Rangers 1-4. I see that repeated tonight, but the Jets may score more if the Leafs do anything to piss them off. Leafs had a recent back-to-back, the Jets did not. Jets at home. Leafs take more than twice as many penalties than the Jets.

To WIN moneyline: Jets
Strong lean: Win puckline: Jets

There is quite a bit of conflicting info in other games for who’s going to win and O/U, so maybe nothing there, and may look deeper for some props. Winnipeg shots aught to be frequent and to the Leafs goalie, look like a busy Spirograph in action. Leafs are far from tuned up, as always it seems, so the situation is clear.

I should add the stats: Leafs have 87 penalty minutes so far, the Jets have 38. The Leafs powerplay is operating at only 10%, while the Jets powerplay is a league-leading 43.5%. These are two VERY different teams!

My plays were I’m going to take another shot on Edmonton Hyman to score at +130. I tried yesterday and it didn’t cash. I don’t usually chase goal scorer props, but I like the matchup. Also a couple of these so far this year I’ve been a game off on, so maybe i’m a little salty. I thought about a potential Hyman to score first at +1000, but didn’t wanna get too cute, and will be glad if this just comes thru.

I also took Toronto last night when the line opened at +100. I dont think that’s crazy value. But the main reason I took a shot on them is I felt Toronto has played a tougher schedule then Winnipeg. Toronto has played New Jersey, Los Angeles, New York Rangers, Tampa Bay and Boston. Winnipeg has been impressive, but so far it’s a list of Chicago, Minnesota, San Jose, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Seattle, and Calgary. Edmonton being the toughest matchup on paper, and they did win that on the road 6-0. But it was also first game of the season and the metrics weren’t as impressive as the score line. So a loss by Winnipeg wouldn’t surprise me.

My plays (not confident)

Edmonton Hyman to score +130

Toronto +100
