For the first time in three years, the Vegas Golden Knights are not the top team to win the Pacific Division.

It may differ by the sportsbook, but most of them have the Calgary Flames at the top of the list, with the Edmonton Oilers right behind them.

The Flames have won it twice in the last three years that it has been going, and will be looking for a repeat.

Here’s the odds from Bet365:

  • Calgary Flames: 3.40
  • Edmonton Oilers: 3.60
  • Vegas Golden Knights: 4.00
  • LA Kings: 4.75
  • Vancouver Canucks: 11.00
  • Anaheim Ducks: 41.00
  • Sharks: 51.00
  • Seattle Kraken: 51.00

Division Winners Betting Tips

I am going to take the Edmonton Oilers to win this division.

There’s not much to say about their offense. They’re incredible. ’nuff said.

I really like the signing of Jack Campbell. The poor guy struggled hard that second half of the season, but he had an absolutely incredible start last year. It’s a big ask for him, but I think he will step into this role. They haven’t been too impressive in the off-season in terms of defense, but I think we’ll see Bouchard grow as a player and have another excellent year. I like Broberg to step up too. I wish they had picked up a playmaker for the blue line as that would be key.

Also I’d say it’s a positive that Duncan Keith is gone. Oilers appear to have a lot of confidence in Jack Campbell which is nice and I think that will pay off. I like that they re-signed Kane too as he really stepped it up in the playoffs. I don’t think they have the D to win the cup, but enough to take this division, and Campbell will thrive.

This is a very tough division though. Going to be very interesting.

Pacific Division Betting Analysis

Calgary Flames

A lot of interesting changes from the Flames in the off-season. Losing Johnny Hockey and Matthew Tkachuk is huge. Yes they added some really good pickups like Huberdeau, but I worry that it will take time for them to all really gel.

They do have positives that the oilers don’t such as the blue line. Markstrom is also coming off a hot season.

Flames will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season and I think they’ll push the Oilers. But I think the two losses will hurt them and it will take time.

Vegas Golden Knights

It feels like the Knights have been plagued with injuries in recent times, and they’ll be hoping to avoid that this season. I feel this is a team that will just lack the team chemistry and loyalty due to management there.

They have a great team but they are really lacking in depth and if injuries hit them – which happens to every team – they will struggle. Lehner is already out for the year, and goaltending is going to be hard for them.

Honestly I get the feeling we see a very disappointing Knights team this season. They are a team whose injury report I will be focusing on closely because that’s going to be a big factor for them.

LA Kings

It was an impressive season for the Kings last year. I wasn’t surprised they made the playoffs and predicted that last year. The fact that they did it mostly without Doughty was huge. Kempe also stepped up.

I like this team a lot. Of course you know how it goes with regression and all that. There is honestly not anything bad I can say about this team. If you’re looking for a long shot bet, this would be it. They have the depth, they have the experience. Last year they were a really tight unit. I’m looking forward to this team this season, and hopefully we’ll see Quinton Byfield step up big this year. This is a team I’ll be looking to bet right out of the gate.

Vancouver Canucks

Some optimism in the Canucks camp this year, with Boudreau having a full season now. He did an excellent job last year. A lot of expectations for Elias Petterson this year as well. He started real slow last year but got going eventually.

They haven’t made the defensive improvements that fans would have liked, but some nice pickups in offense with Mikheyev, Lazar and Kuzmenko.

Man – the Pacific division is looking spicy this year. I’m always a big fan of coaches making a difference and I hope Boudreau is able to continue his run. Of course we often see that fresh coaching change have a positive effect temporarily then it’s back to crap. See: Oilers, Edmonton. The first couple of games of the season will be very eye opening.

Anaheim Ducks

Alright – finally we get to the bottom half of the division – teams that won’t be winning the division, and likely won’t make the playoffs.

Ducks are a young team with a lot of potential. But that’s all they have – potential. Some decent enough pickups like Klingberg and Strome and they should have a good season. They’ll be hoping Zegras doesn’t have that 2nd year regression. Troy Terry was also super impressive last year.

Klingberg is going to be the most interesting pickup for me and I’m really curious to see what he adds to the D. Getzlaf and his leadership is a big loss, but it’s a good time for someone else to step up. Ducks will likely cause some problems this year. If John Gibson could step up like he had in previous years, they might actually be a contender. But he has regressed so much it feels. It used to be he was a game changing goalie but he’s lost that. I think they’ll be solid, but ineffective.

San Jose Sharks

I saw that Plattner is actually expecting them to get in the playoffs this year. Not a chance. Messy contract situation even with Burns gone. He’s a big loss to the blue line and they have no depth. The only bright spots are probably seeing Eklund and Bordeleau more. Eklund did look good. I think we’re going to see a worse performance this year than last year for the Sharks, and that will ring in the changes.

Seattle Kraken

Well on the bright side for Seattle fans – nowhere to go but up. They’ve made a few decent additions plus hopefully we’ll see Beniers and Wright at some point during the season. Goaltendings going to be another big issue for them.

Basically I see slightly better results for this team – but I think they’ll still finish last. Looking at the rest of the teams in this division there’s just a big gulf in depth and quality.
