4 games yesterday and went 1-0 with the tip.

Had the Flyers to beat the Predators and they did 2-1 but it’s was a stressful finish with the goalie pulled.

The Devils beat the Wild 3-2 in a shootout which game gives them a 10 point lead over the Rangers for 3rd.  Glad I avoided the Avalanche as it would have needed to be -1.5 and the Flames tied it midway through the 3rd to force extra time where the Flames won 3-2 in a shootout.

10 games tonight.  My house is full of sick people and I finally caught it.  Not going to dig deep in to today’s games as I feel like a bag of shit.

Panthers vs Canadiens

They just played each other on Sunday and I’m fine passing on this.

Capitals vs Bruins

The Caps are in 1st place in the Metro and Eastern Conference.  They have lost 3 in a row and are 23-9-3 on the road.

The Bruins haven’t yet been eliminated but it’s clear that with the moves they made they have accepted the fact that the need to rebuild.

Predators vs Jackets

They played last night.  The Predators have been eliminated.  They have lost the last 3 games in a row and are 2-7-1 in last 10.  They are 9-22-5 on the road.

The Jackets are also 3-6-1 in last 10 but are only 2 points back of 8th in the East and also have a game in hand so they need to take advantage of that in this game.

Sabres vs Senators

The Sabres are in last place in the East.  They are only 9 points back but it’s going to be very difficult to make up that kind of ground with how they have played this season.

The Senators are in 7th and will be win or lose here.  They are 7 points behind the Panthers and 7 ahead of the 8th place Canadiens.

Lightning vs Islanders

These teams just played each other on Saturday so it’s another where I’m fine passing.

Wings vs Blues

The Wings are in 11th place and are 3 points behind the Habs.  They have a losing road record going 15-17-3 away from Detroit.

The Blues have climbed back into the playoff picture with their play.  They have won 9 games in a row and are 20-14-3 at home.  They are in 8th.

Flames vs Utah

The Flames have lost their last 2 games and have had 3 of their last 4 games go to overtime.  They are in 10th in the West and are 7 points back of the Blues.

Utah is right behind the Flames in the standings and only 2 points back of them.  They have played 2 more games than Calgary though.

Oilers vs Knights

The Oilers are in 3rd in the Pacific.  They are only 2 points back of the Kings and have a 8 point lead over the Canucks.  It’s tough to back them with the injuries they have.

The Knights are in 1st in the Pacific and have won their last 6 games in a row.  They have a 7 point lead over the Kings.  They too are dealing with some key injuries with Hertl and Pietrangelo both out.

Sharks vs Ducks

Nothing here for me.

Sharks eliminated and the Ducks are right behind them.

Jets vs Kings

The Jets are still in 1st place in the Central and the league.  They are on a 3 game winning streak and are 7-3-0 in last 10.  On the road they have been strong going 23-13-0.

The Kings had their 15 game home point streak ended in their game against the Leafs on Saturday.  They followed that up with a 8-1 pounding of the Sharks.  Despite having their streak snapped they have been amazing in L.A going 27-4-4.

I hate it when a slew of games look so easy to bet on when looking at the basic stats, because “bet against the public” is so often good advice and the real result. However, the playoff race and recent results and trends support a few ideas….

To WIN in regulation: Washington and St. Louis
Full game OVER 5.0: Islanders game
Options I like: 1) Washington puckline win
2) St. Louis puckline win

St. Louis is on a Super Heater, needs points in a big way, and they’re getting them. Detroit won’t be able to deal with a tuned-up fully charged well rested St. Louis.

Boston has collapsed on offense and their defense is making their net 3X larger. Don’t be surprised if Ovechkin nets 2+ goals today. The ice will be tilted and it could go Warner Brothers. Washington’s three game losing streak is easily explained; it started with Winnipeg (huge challenge), followed by Minnesota who can be quite tough, and then losing to Buffalo, which when looking at the schedule and the Caps place in the standings, the Caps could easily have said, “we have the luxury of taking the night off to take strategic advantage of rest”.
