Hey how about that. Another perfect night with the NHL Tips. I could get used to that.
I went 1-0 and Scott went 2-0 for a combined 3-0
My win was with the over 5.5 in the Wild vs Stars game. It didn’t go over in the way I expected, so I definitely got fortunate there. Wild defense stepped up and stifled the Stars which was a concern I had. Thankfully, their offense came alive big time.
Scott won with the Islanders, who had that insane quick rally against the Canes, and of course the Minnesota Wild.
Neither of us had a bet in the Oilers vs Kings game. Lot of grumpy Edmonton fans after that one. Browsing the post-game threads made me think I was actually in the Leafs subreddit for a second with all the conspiracy theories about the refs.
Let’s get onto todays batch – and a reminder that our mailing list server still ain’t great. So all the e-mails won’t be out before the Canes vs Islanders game tomorrow I expect so visit the site before 1pm if you haven’t got the e-mail.
Jets vs Knights Betting Tips:
Scott: The Knights were able to tie the series. I had said that once Stone got back up to game speed after missing 3 months it would go a long way towards the Knights success. He is back and the Knights won 5-2 when Stone scored twice and added an assist.
With the series moving to Winnipeg I have to think the home crowd will be giving the Jets a boost in game 3. But the Knights will have their own momentum going after winning so this should be a good game.
I still think this series has the potential to go long and I still think the Knights will move on but the Jets home fans are nuts and can pump up the home team.
No Bet
Graeme: I mean I was pretty much ready to reassume my regular season boycott of anything related to Jets betting after Game 1, and this one doesn’t get me going too much.
Odds are a coinflip as we switch venues. Vegas were a beast on the road last season, but the Jets were very solid at home as well.
Two very lopsided results so far in this series.
Combining the metrics of the two games so far sees the Jets as the slightly better side. Now they have home ice, that may push things in their favour even more.
I honestly have no clue on this one, and no bet. One of those where the head says the Jets, the heart says the Knights. If it was any team other than the Jets, I think I’d probably risk a bet on them at home here. But it’s the Jets.

Lightning vs Leafs Betting Tips:
Scott: Was nice to see the Leafs pick up a win. Tavares scored a hat trick, Marner scored twice, Reilly had 4 assists and they looked like the team they are capable of being. Game 2 was also a physical game that had 3 fights and 94 combined hits.
Game 3 will be a real test for the Leafs as it will be played in Tampa Bay. How the Leafs play after picking up that big win on the road will tell us a lot about them this postseason.
With the emotions running high I could see this game being another high scoring one after the first 2 had totals of 10 and 9 goals.

Graeme: A great bounce back from Toronto in Game 2, and much needed. They flexed their muscle big there and that was nice to see.
I think they continue the momentum tonight. Tampas offense will need to step up. I expect this to be a penalty filled game as well, which will help with the goal count.
If Hedman is still out, that’s a big loss for Tampa.
The over is tempting, but I’m going for a riskier, Leafs Over 3.5 Goals incl OT bet myself. I like their offense to continue where they left off, and that Tampa D looks cooked. Not fully convinced Tampa can get the goals unless the Leafs don’t show up like in Game 1. In saying that, 2.01 odds for the over at BetOnline isn’t too shabby.

Rangers vs Devils Betting Tips:
Scott: Experience has been the difference in this series. The Rangers are up 2-0 in the series and now play the next 2 games at home.
The Rangers have won both of their games by 4 goals and that’s the first time the team has done that since 1994, the year they won the Stanley Cup.
With the way the first 2 games have gone and them now playing at home I see no reason not to take the Rangers here.

Graeme: I’m gutted by the Devils performances so far. I loved them so much during the early parts of the regular season, and how much money we made off them. Sportsbooks just never gave them the respect they deserved during October and November.
This series already looks over. Now we’ve seen the Rangers perform like that before and then completely shit the bed. And actually, looking at the advanced metrics it’s really not all that bad.
I’m actually going to skip betting this game. I went into this expecting to back Rangers in regulation, but looking at the metrics I’m just not fully convinced. I think the Devils still have it in them. In saying that, I will likely blindly bet Rangers in regulation game 4 if they win here.
Kraken vs Avs Betting Tips:
Scott: The Avalanche managed to pick up a crucial win in game 2 to tie the series up before it moves to Seattle for the next 2 games.
They were down 2-0 after the 1st but answered with 2 of their own in the 2nd and Toews won it in the 3rd.
With the win out of the way, the Avalanche now go to Seattle to try and take the lead in the series.
I like their chances but would need to take them in regulation and with both games being close I’m not sure I can back that.
No Bet
Graeme: A tight series which goes to Seattle now. The Kraken were a weak 20-17-4 at home, while the Avs were excellent on the road.
I’m not buying into the Avs at all this season. However they have certainly looked the better side overall against Seattle I would say.
Thing with Seattle and why I stopped betting them during the season is you just never knew what you’d get. The metrics and past results didn’t seem to matter for them. Their offense could be ticking then just completely shut off. They have some of the best defensive metrics in the league over the course of the regular season. Unfortunately, their goaltending isn’t up to par.
I’m going to take a little gamble on the Kraken here. I just feel the sportsbooks are giving the Avs too much respect. It’s not a bet I’m madly in love with or anything – just one of those where I look at it and think yeah – I could see a Kraken win enough times to give this play value.

To WIN moneyline: Rangers
Second Period OVER 1.5: Leafs/Lightning
Second Period OVER 1.5: Kraken/Avs
Lean: to WIN puckline -1.5: Rangers
I just had that feeling all morning today is not going to be a good betting day on hockey, or at least the picks will be very few, and the matchups lead me to be very careful. But I think the Rangers are for real to take Round 1 quickly. Finishing off a series with the 4th win can be the hardest game to win, but I think we’re looking at a team that’s going to plow their way steadily in Game 3.
The OVER in the Toronto game is the likely pick, but I’m very wary because if Hedman is back, that shifts the Tampa lines and mentality on defensive methods. But wow, the speed, turnovers, high danger approaches and shots in the Toronto/Tampa series are running hot. I’ll let them work it out on the ice, but the 2nd Period OVER looks good regardless, with these two teams. The odds aren’t great, but the probability is VERY high.
I’m interested in seeing how the Jets do, I’ve wondered just what they are all season and still can’t figure it out. I don’t see Colorado showing total domination like in recent years, and Seattle really plays well, so at home with a crowd that will be electric Kraken madness, should be great hockey! The 2nd Period OVER looks great, but I’m even wary of that because Colorado can be inconsistent on offense and Seattle’s defense has been great down the stretch.
