The Chicago Blackhawks gave it their best effort, however the Vegas Knights were able to see them off and win 4-3. Crawford was unable to repeat his heroics from the previous game.
A lot of people didn’t think the Blackhawks deserved to be here however (and this is Graeme writing) they did themselves proud by not only beating the Oilers but putting in a lot of effort against the Knights and making the Knights rise to the challenge. Blackhawks fans at least have the memories of the Oilers games and that Crawford performance from the 2020 playoffs.
The Washington Capitals were able to halt the sweep temporarily with a 3-2 win over the Islanders. The Stars take the lead in their series 3-2 as they stopped trading wins, and the Flyers defeated the Canadiens 2-0. The best stat from that is the Flyers have shut out the Habs twice, yet the Habs have still scored more goals in the series. Amazing.
It’s Wednesday August 19th and we’ve got 5 games to go through. So let’s get to it:
Blue Jackets vs Lightning Betting Tips:
Graeme: This is a real tricky one because everything I have said about the Blue Jackets and theroetically value is still true. However they are on the verge of elimination and having watched so many playoffs over the years I just get the feeling they are finished ya know?
Honestly? It will not surprise me if we see a repeat of Game 6 in Boston last year. Where the Blue Jackets are just done and can’t get it done. I’m expecting that and It won’t surprise me if Tampa win 2-0 or 3-0. I’m going to go down with the ship and bet Jackets incl OT but honestly don’t expect it to happen.
I’m quite pumped about this bet now ha. If it loses it loses and if it wins it will be a pleasant surprise.

Scott: The Lightning have a chance to eliminate the Jackets in this game. The Lightning have been looking for a chance to get some revenge after last years playoffs and they now have a chance.
It won’t be easy but the Lightning need to end this now as they can’t afford to allow the Jackets any chance to get back into this series and force a game 7.

Hurricanes vs Bruins Betting Tips:
Graeme: The Bruins are favourites here. They lead the series 3-1 after that big 4-3 win over the Hurricanes where they came back from 2-0 down to win. That was a crazy game as the Canes looked so good in the first two periods of that one then it was like an entirely different team took the ice.
I also wonder how life is like in the bubble and if that affects things. Like how many of these players are actually excited at getting to go home to their families etc? Hard to bring the motivation level when you’re thinking about that.
I’d love the Hurricanes to pull off an upset but the Bruins physicality seems too much for them. I’m not completely sold on the Bruins but I don’t think Canes have it. Bruins incl OT

Scott: Last game the Bruins were down 2-0 but managed to score 4 straight goals in the 3rd to complete the comeback and win 4-3.
After winning the Presidents Trophy during the regular season the Bruins now have a chance to move onto the next round.
With the momentum they gained in the 3rd period of the comeback victory game I have to think the Bruins keep rolling in this one and move onto the next game.

Coyotes vs Avalanche Betting Tips:
Graeme: This series is still going on? They should have called it after that Avs win over the Coyotes. It’s actually an interesting one as while the Coyotes got thrashed 7-1, they don’t want to go out in that manner and you have to think there will be a better fighting performance. Kuemper is also going to be motivated to step up.
In saying that I think Tocchet is done and I don’t think he has the capabilities here. That last game was dreadful. I’ve seen enough teams step up for a goalie after a dismal performance like that to put me off Avs in regulation – but I expect that’s the way it’ll go. Scott: The Avalanche flexed their offensive muscles in game 4 putting up 7 in their 7-1 win one game after Darcy Kuemper had a big game to give the Coyotes the win.
I’m not sure the Coyotes can come back from that pounding they just took and I expect the Avalanche to build off that huge win and eliminate Arizona.

Canadiens vs Flyers Betting Tips:
Graeme: After scoring 5 goals, the Habs offense has been shut out twice. Hart just isn’t making mistakes. Yet again if you go by the Deserve To Win O Meter, Habs were the better team yesterday. If the Flyers want to keep progressing their offense certainly needs to wake up. Really riding the defense and goalie right now. Flyers likely take this, however we saw the Habs step up in Game 2 and it’s possible they do it again when the chips are down. No bet for me. Under 5 is probably the play but goddamn it’s hard to back that. Not sure if I can actually bring myself to bet it because 60 minutes of hoping for no goals sucks.
I’ve went 2-0 with the Brendan Gallagher shot count picks so let’s go for the trifecta. Brendan Gallagher Over 3.5 Shots. He’d had 3 the last two games but I think we’ll see some adjustment from the Habs and he’ll get more and some more ice time.

Scott: Carter Hart has been amazing over the last two games. He has posted two shutouts in a row and has helped get the Flyers within one win of moving onto the next round.
With Harts play and the Flyers one win away from moving on I think they pick up the win in this game.

Canucks vs Blues Betting Tips:
Graeme: Well the youth vs experience battle has been interesting. Canucks shot up to a 2-0 lead however the veterans on the Blues stepped up and have now won 2 games in a row. Blues are their best will just beat the Canucks every day of the week it seems. Berube has made the necessary adjustments it seems.
It’s a tough one because Canucks are decent priced underdogs and there is value on the surface there. However despite the scorelines, Canucks were outplayed the last two games and it is hard to back them ya know?

Scott: The Blues have tied the series now with back to back wins after losing the first two games. Ryan O’Reilly had a great game scoring twice and adding an assist and as we saw last year when he won the Conn Smyth Trophy he can guide this team deep.
But after the way the Canucks played in the first two games it’s tough to say what will happen in game 5.
