An 0-1 night with the NHL Tips yesterday, as the Dallas Stars failed to deliver against the Knights.
I felt the Stars started the game very well then just faded off.
It’s interesting as I was chatting to someone in the comments yesterday who were saying that they were planning on taking a couple of weeks off from betting due to their results the past few days.
I mentioned that December does seem to be a tricky time when it comes to betting as in my head I picture a lot of odd results etc. Anyway I happened to take a glance at the stats and sure enough – other than December 2017 where we went 33-23 for +10.12u, every single December since we started the tips in 2013 has been a losing month!
So it’s interesting looking at it from that perspective and I like to see that. I feel 6 months is a decent enough sample size. It’s from this period now until the New Year and so I think we’ll try and be more conservative at this point. Not sure what it is that’s causing it – maybe players are too distracted writing their Christmas lists to Santa, or are getting into the eggnog early or something. Either way we’ll probably lessen the quantity of tips until January and proceed with caution the entire time.
The Rangers are a team that will fall victim to that conservatism today. Based on the odds on paper I think that’s a decent bet, however they are just very inconsistent and hard to trust this season. Plus Ducks are struggling result wise but have rode the games close.
I’m a bit behind today due to hosting a party last night and having to do a big cleanup this morning. We have early games so I’ll skip the poll today.
Canadiens vs Red Wings Betting Tips:
Hopefully not jumping the gun on this one. However remember when Fabbri joined the Wings and immediately spearheaded a brief resurgence? 5 games without a regulation loss, scoring the goals etc? I’m hoping that Jets win will spur them on again here.
Funny as it seems the Dylan Larkin playing through his illness situation was all it took to really spur the team on. Hoping that is the case and we can bank on a couple of high scoring games from them for the next week.
They’re on the road in Montreal. The Bell Centre is a good place to go for teams right now. Habs have really struggled here lately and they seem to concede a ton here.
Very tempting to go 1u here but a lot of it is based on theory of how the Red Wings will perform after just that one win. Plus December.

Flames vs Hurricanes Betting Tips:
The Flames are having a lot of fun lately and there’s been some solid games at home where they end up having high scoring games but taking the win.
Hoping for something similar here as they go up against a very impressive in the Hurricanes.
Carolina is always a weird offensive team. Have been for years. But they always have the ability to go nuts and I think they can do it here. They’re very efficient and as per usual rank highest in xGF/60 and are right up there in the other metrics such as Corsi etc.
They should be able to take their chances against the Flames well enough while the Flames will have the fight to keep it going and it should be a high scoring one.

Flyers vs Wild Betting Tips:
This was very close to not being a tip as I don’t have a lot of faith in the Flyers offense. However I’ve thought it over and have to go with it.
Last two games between these two have been barnburners with 9 and 11 goal thrillers although prior to that a ton of low scoring games.
Wild are in that spot where they have a home streak going and will do anything to defend it. Look at the fight in that Oilers game for example.
The Philly offense seems to be a bit hot/cold so hoping it’s hot tonight for this one. Especially considering the Wild have one of the worst GAA in the league.
