Welcome to Saturday, February 16th. The usual busy night of NHL games. 3 early games with the Penguins vs Flames and Flyers vs Red Wings at 1pm EST, then the Avs host the Blues at 3pm EST.
We won last night with the Hurricanes and lost with the Ducks with the same trend occuring resulting in the win and the loss – teams able to create the chances but unable to score the goals.
The Canes beat the Oilers 3-1. Oilers have 2 goals in their last 80 shots with both by Draisatl. McElhinney did a solid job as he went 7-0-0 against the Oilers and made quite a few good saves.
It was similar in the Ducks/Bruins game. Looking back at my notes from yesterday that one went as expected performance wise. The Ducks created the chances I expected but just couldn’t get the puck in the net. Halak made a couple of good saves too but that one is more on the Ducks offense.
The non-NHL systems continue to do well – especially the WHL system which after last night improves to a 29-9 record! One play in the WHL tonight which is below the NHL Tips.
Flyers vs Red Wings Betting Tips:
I liked the way the Flyers bounced back after that Penguins loss. It was a tough 2nd leg of the B2B and they fought their hearts out against Minnesota.
They’ve now had a couple of days off and take on the Red Wings. After losses against the Blackhawks and Sabres, the Red Wings need a miracle to make the playoffs at this point. I’m backing that they don’t find that when they head to Philly, who are 8 points behind the Pens and every win is crucial.
Losing to Pittsburgh then bouncing back like that is what is leading me to take the Flyers. They could have easily rolled over so I loved what they did against Minnesota. That was a crushing loss for their playoff hopes but they just kept plugging away.
I’ve got to think they bring that mentality here. It’s one of those plays I always feel happy to bet at this stage of the season – if the Flyers deserve to be in the playoffs then they win here. Simple as that.

Blues vs Avalanche Betting Tips:
The Avs come into this after beating the Winnipeg Jets. I don’t want to say that I don’t rate the Jets or anything – but I don’t consider it a huge achievement or anything.
They’ve pulled off wins like that previously then been unable to follow up on them, such as the win over the Leafs or the win over the Kings in mid-January or the Rangers in early January. They immediately blew the spot right after.
Blues are third in the Central at the moment based on their stellar run.
I’m tempted to take Blues in regulation here as I generally don’t go with a heavy favourite like this in overtime. However the Avs brutal overtime results plus quite a few tight games for the Blues on the road has me swinging that way.

Oilers vs Islanders Betting Tips:
If the Oilers play Spoilers tonight then so be it. Islanders come into this one on the back of some solid home form, and it’s their last game at the Barclays Centre for the regular season.
Their defence has been performing well and even though their offense has been a bit weak, they usually perform well at home.
Just have to think they’ll be up for this one and take it. Like I said if Oilers play Spoilers then welp – that’s hockey.

Jackets vs Blackhawks Betting Tips:
Going to go with the over in this one. We know the Blackhawks recent history with the over with so many games being high scoring. Doesn’t seem to be opponent dependent.
After a good little run Jackets stumbled to a 3-0 loss at home to the Islanders. They’re coming on the road again where they have scored 4,4,6 and 3 in their last 4.
I see nothing to suggest this isn’t the usual Blackhawks high scoring game. No-one can seemingly stop them scoring while they can’t stop the goals themselves.
