A disappointing 0-2 night with the NHL tips as the two big favourites didn’t pan out.
We had the Capitals to win in regulation. A host of defensive errors early on by the Capitals however had Holtby ready to kill someone and the Habs up 3-0. We’ve seen that complacency from the Capitals in their last few games but nothing as bad as that. Will be interesting to see how they bounce back from that and if it’s the wake up call they needed.
It was a thrilling game however with the Capitals chasing the game like crazy and Condon stepped up big time. Even though he let in 3 goals he made some incredible saves and deserves a lot of credit for that win.
We went for the riskier bet of the Ducks -1.5 against the Buffalo Sabres. We weren’t concerned about the Sabres offense. However the Ducks couldn’t get that 2nd goal that was needed.
We’ve got a busier schedule tonight with 10 games on the board. Let’s get to it:
Chicago Blackhawks vs Nashville Predators:
The Blackhawks have been in a bit of a rough patch the last few games and that all came to a head a few days ago against Minnesota when they were absolutely blown away.
They’re now going up against a Predators team who may be without Weber, and who they have dominated in recent times scoring a barrel load of goals against them.
We like the Blackhawks to bounce back today.

St. Louis Blues vs New York Rangers:
The Blues are in tough, tough shape at the moment with a lot of brutal injuries.
Reaves is also out due to suspension. Brian Elliott is the latest one to be added to the injury list.
We’re surprised by the odds on this one and will gladly take Rangers to win.

New York Islanders vs Calgary Flames:
The Islanders are playing some very good hockey at the moment and have been looking really good. They struggled a bit coming out of the all star break but have really turned things around.
The Flames are in free fall and although they’ve been able to pick up a few wins they’re still looking extremely sloppy out there.
We’re taking Islanders to win this evening.

Dallas Stars vs Winnipeg Jets:
Stars had a great win over the Jets a couple of nights ago in Winnipeg, and we expect more of the same here. The Stars have the 2nd best goals per game at home in the league, going up against Jets team who struggle to score on the road and are fairly leaky themselves.
Stars are in a good spot right now and we like them to dominate this game.

Definitely agree with Wild-Flyers O5. in last 24 combined games (12 each team) there have only been 3 games under 5 (Flyers).
Chi ML – I don’t trust the BH. I think they are lazy and undisciplined. They are complacent and being the first seed doesn’t mean anything at this point. However, I do like the over in this game. Only 6 of the past 24 combined games between these teams have been fewer than 5 goals. You have to go back to 2014 to find a game between these teams that was less than 5.
Stars ML – Why make that bet? Stars should destroy Jets but there is no value. The over has some value.
Isles ML – Risky? Isles are a far better team and playing against a weak goalie. there isn’t a single category where Isles aren’t better. Isles are 6-2 in last 8 and Flames are 3-5 in last 8 including wins vs TML and Nucks. They beat one quality team: Sharks. Isles are barely hanging onto to playoff seed. Isles all the way.

Not mad lion, just engaging in some thoughful discussion. You’re entitled to your opinion just as I am. Given the stats I’m just surprised that you would have 100% confidence in Calgary beating a superior team. Since you don’t offer any explanation of how you come to your decisions, I think it’s fair to question them and offer a rebuttal.
Ok my friend. I am just lasy to write all my minds and my analyses . I know how strong islanders are but flames were very unlucky last few games and they want to be back and fight for first 8 and they are well capable to do that. Arent they?

Yeah.. and mostly you’ve been more accurate recently (seriously how do you do it? haha) than anybody i’ve ever seen lion so don’t bother with critcs. lion has some ridiculously good betting stats the last couple of 4-5 nights. And i will tell you this, the picks he makes at first dosen’t makes ANY sense at all for most of us. I don’t know how he calculate his picks. The statistics really goes against his most picks last couple of days. But in the end he do get the WINS. So im really impressed and have nothing but respect for lion.

Blackhawks absolutely crushed me tonight. Rinne had a great game but when game was 1-1, BH looked scared and didn’t want to make mistakes instead of playing aggressive hockey. They flat out choked. Can’t do that at home. Lion, even at 65% confidence was correct with that call. Nicely done!

Any idiot can pick out the favorite, but it takes skills to consistently go for the non-obvious. I think lion does that. I’ve seen (and been on his picks) several times now, where he goes for the underdog and it turns up good. Flames could just as easily have taken this.

I know what you mean, but it’s a figure of speech — I wasn’t calling anyone, anything. It just means anyone can pick the favorite (bookies makes that very easy for you), but it takes skills and knowledge to go for the underdog (sometimes by a large margin) and have it land.

Rangers ML – Mcdonagh & Staal both confirmed to play tonight
Losing night here as well. I expected the Caps and Sharks to win and the Ducks to run over the Sabres. The Sabres have proven themselves to be both a resilient and competitive team. Regardless of whether they are home or on the road or playing an elite team they seem to bring a high compete level every night. You just can’t count them out and shouldn’t shade them. Now the Jets are another matter…
Love tonight’s line-up of games, there are some really interesting betting opportunities, starting with the Canes.
Canes ML – I looked at this last night and got -135, since then the line has moved to -155 or -165 depending on your site, beyond value for a SU bet but worth including in a parlay. The Canes don’t have a good road record but TML are in the tank and putting out an AHL team. Tonight Canes are shooting against Bernier who has dropped last 7 with a GAA of over 4. Canes are also fighting for a WC.
Jets/Stars over – there were 8 goals each in the last two games between these teams and 6 of last 8 have gone over.
Isles ML – Isles are 5-2 and Flames are 2-5 in last 7 and Isles GF is 3+ during that time. They are shooting aginst Ortio who hasn’t won all season and can give up a lot of goals. -140 is certainly worth inclusion in a parlay if not SU bet.
Preds-BH over – neither team has been scoring like their are capable of recently, but they both have the potential to put up crooked numbers. This will be a fast, up and down game with a lot of shots and hopefully 5+ goals.
NYR ML – I agree with Graeme’s assessment. NYR have a lot of character and will want a bounce back from the spanking from the Devils. They are fighting for a good seed too and won’t want to lose ground in a crowded playoff picture.
Devils ML – I like the Devils compete level lately and Scheidner is defintely a better goalie than Kor-whatever.. I’m not super confident here, but I think Devils who are 1 pt out of last WC want this more than the streaky CBJ
Wild-Flyers over 5 – you have to go back more than 12 games to find a game with fewer than 5 goals for the Wild. The Flyers have had 3 games with fewer than 5 in the last 12. This is a pretty good bet.
BS over – lots of games and lots of goals. I see at least 2 games going 9+ total goals
Isles score first – Ortio is a rusty sieve and the Isles find the back of the net within the first 10 mins.
NYR score first – Korpisalo bends before The King does. Lundqvist will be a beast tonight after the Devils debacle.

pays about 6:1 so you only have to win one of six bets to break even. I like the chances of 2 of 4 games being decided by 2 goals or more. As HDV says: Jets (begin free fall), Flames (free falling), Maple Leafs (plummeting) and I will add Oilers (in death spiral) who are 1-8 in last 9 with only win vs TML. Stars and Kings are both at home which gives them a further edge.
Always like to predict every game. Hit a 10-game parlay once (only regulation wins + OT’s) and have been doing that ever since with 1 unit stake. Now with moneylines + OT’s though.

Kings @ 1.64 seem very fishy. Still remember how the Kings slept on the Oilers twice last year. LA is one of my least trusted teams when they’re heavy favorites.
Realistically though, odds are in their favor obviously. Oilers flat out suck at the moment. But if the Kings sleep on them which is a real possibility then McDavid can do his thing while the Kings offense keeps throwing pucks on Talbot’s chest giving him a 40-save performance.
Honestly i could see this happening as it’s happened before (without McDavid obviously), so my advice is if you’re going to bet on the Kings don’t put your house and car on the line lol ^^

I’ve been following this site and all your conversations a couple days and now I’d like to take part. 🙂 I’m from Germany and since I used to live in Victoria BC for a couple years I’m a big NHL fan, even bigger Canucks fan as well.
So many ups and downs on the last bets, so I’ll just post what I think of tonight:
Devils – Jackets –> Under
Schneider is playing well lately and the Jackets look a bit tired. Can’t really decide between either one to win, Jackets always good for a surprise
Flyers – Wild –> OT and/or Over
Flyers need to get points now to clinch a spot, but the Wild are tough to beat these days. But I’m excited to see both teams without their leaders battle hard. Maybe lots of goals…
Dallas – Jets –> Dallas
Gotta go with the Stars right here.
Hawks – Preds –> Hawks in OT
Also tricky, if Weber can’t play, the Hawks could take it in regulation. If the team steps up, it’s gonna be tight. Gotta wait and see.
Florida – Coyotes –> Panthers and Over
Coyotes are tired after many close games. I think the Panthers will put on a show after this long break.
Flames – Islanders –> Over
Hope to see lots of goals at this game. Maybe also some nice extra minutes in OT.

Bad nights come and go. Something that took me a while to learn is to just aim for the long term. Graeme and Scott don’t hit every night but if you look to their overall stats they’re up pretty decent.
I think it’s time to blow it up in Vancouver. Obviously you have to keep the Sedins but everyone else can/should be turned into picks. It’s going to be a tough couple years but there is a good young core being built.
