The 10th Winter Classic took place yesterday and it was the Rangers winning 3-2 in OT. The Rangers are now 4-0 in outdoor games.
When listening to the players who play or have played in these games they always mention the “experience”. I would like to hear their honest opinion of these games, do they think they need to happen during the season with points on the line?
A much better night for us tonight. There are 12 games scheduled. It’s hard to believe that we are pretty much at the halfway point of the season already.
Penguins vs Flyers Betting Tips:
These are always great games between two rivals. Both teams haven’t had great seasons up to this point with the Penguins in 7th place in the Metro and the Flyers in 8th. A new year and a fresh start should be how these teams move forward and try and climb the standings.
Over the last 10 games between these teams there has been an average of 6.50 GPG. The last meeting was 5-4 OT win for the Pens and the game before that was a 6-2 Flyers win.
With the Over/Under at 5.5 I’m going with Over 5.5 incl OT/SO

Capitals vs Hurricanes Betting Tips:
The Canes have beat the Caps the last 2 games but before that it was Washington winning 3 in a row.
The Caps are in 1st in the Metro and have won 2 in a row. The Canes are in 6th. They lost their last game but before that they had won 4 straight.
I expect the Capitals to come out flying in this game. They need to finish games off early and avoid playing in overtime where 5 of their last 10 games have ended.

Lightning vs Maple Leafs Betting Tips:
This one is going to be a good game between 2 of the most exciting teams to watch in the league.
The Lightning are in 1st place in both the Atlantic and the league and the Leafs are tied for 2nd in the Atlantic.
The Bolts are ranked first in GPG with 3.74 and the Leafs are tied for 4th with 3.33.
The Lightning are a great bounce back team going 9-1 this season following a loss and that was evident in their last game when they won 5-0 against the Blue Jackets.
If I was to pick a winner for this game I would have to say the Lightning but I’m more comfortable going with Over 6 incl OT/SO

I took Rangers in Reg and bit more on them on ML with a small play on the PL. All in all I lost about £8. Not too bothered considering there wasn’t a lot of opportunity yesterday to cash in. Today there are quite a few picks I like. Capitals to win is NOT one of them, sorry Scott. Canes are a perfect 6/6 in their last 6 at home and weren’t looking all that bad in their lose to the blues. The Canes have won 4 of the last 5 at home to the Caps and the last 2 meetings in preseason. The Caps have lost their last three on the road and put in pathetic efforts against the Coyotes and Knights. They thought they’d beaten the Yotes before the game even started and that’s not giving me enough confidence to take them, even at an underdog price. Scott may well be right and they may come out flying, but given their recent away form and lack of success in Carolina it’s a pass for me. Here are my picks-
POTD – Ducks Reg/ML (80%/85%) – I love the ducks here, they’ve won 4 of their last 5 games and are picking up steam. Unlike the Caps the Ducks didn’t take their game against the Yotes lightly and won convincingly 5-2. Having lost only to the Knights in their last 5, this is a team who knows they need to get some wins on the board to recover from the losses they took they were injured badly. I’ve liked what I’ve seen from the ducks even when they were bruised and losing, and still brought a fighting spirit game in and out. The Ducks already managed a convincing 4-1 win against the Canucks when they were without Getzlaf, Kesler or Fowler. The Canucks meanwhile had Dorsett, Horvat, Baertschi and Sutter. This time the Ducks have all three back and Canucks have all 4 out. The Canucks have won 2 of their last 11, and the Ducks are chasing a playoff spot desperately. I doubt we are going to see a game that the Ducks aren’t going to take seriously in the coming months, and I’ll be backing them a lot. Jump on the Ducks back here and look to ride them often in the coming weeks. Huge money spot here in my opinion.
Stars ML/Reg (75%/80%) – The Stars are on of the best home teams in the league and showed that by crushing the Sharks 6-0 in their last game. The Jackets are 1-7 coming into this game and the defensive stability that was winning them games earlier this season is nowhere to be found… Just when you think the Jackets are about to win a game they surrender the lead and lose. They were struggling to score goals earlier in the season winning a lot of 2-1 games and OT games, now instead they can’t keep the puck out their own net despite scoring well. Bobrovsky and the Jackets have had success in Dallas, and that is the only risky part of this pick. That being said Dallas has only been downed by 4 teams at home this season- twice to the Knights, once to the caps and Preds and once to the Jets. Am I about to bet that the Jackets who have allowed 20 goals in their last 5 away matches are going to join that list of teams to win in Dallas? Nope, historical success doesn’t earn them that much respect.
Tampa ML/Reg (90%/85%) – I don’t need to look too hard at this game. Toronto has come off a seriously long road trip in which they went 3-6. The Leafs have won their last 3 at home but that’s no cause for excitement. Winning against the Oilers, Flames and Canes at home is hardly an impressive feat. Losing to Yotes 4-1 at home 2 games prior though is impressive; impressively bad. Toronto just aren’t in the Bolt league right now even with a healthy squad. Tampa have been superb almost every single game, and have won 4 of their last 5 meetings in Toronto. In the Leafs last 10 wins nothing really impressed me. Sure they hammered the Canes but it’s not unlike the Canes to lose by such large margins and they were slumping badly at that point. They beat the Flames, Oilers and Canes twice , Pens, Habs, Coyotes and Rangers. Of all those wins beating Rangers is probably the most respectable considering the Rangers home form. However, all of their other victories have been against sides who have been strugglers all season long. Tampa are a step above all of those teams and a step above the Leafs. I can’t see an upset.
Bruins Reg/ML (85%/90%) – The Bruins have ruined the Islanders in Brooklyn, winning 15 of the last 19 meetings here going back to 2007. I’ve been saying it for weeks – the Islanders are not a team to bet lately. Their offence has calmed down, and their defensive issues and goaltending have only got worse. The Islanders have won just 4 of their last 13 games, and that doesn’t bode well for them if they want to stop their bleeding to a Bruins side who has swept them side game after game. The Bruins have won a huge 15 of their last 20 games and are quite honestly “the shit” right now. Their offence is good, and their defence and goaltending is even better. Raask has been imperious and Khudobin isn’t looking bad either. The Bruins have been good to my wallet and cruel to struggling teams, hammering teams who aren’t underperforming. Beating the Sens 10-1 over two games is just one example of this. SDB watch your team cruise through this game tonight.
Other thoughts- Knights to win. I just can’t fault the Knights desire and skill. The Preds offer good value and are no push overs but they’ve been in a bit of a slump right now, and were playing superbly when the Knights came in and ruined the party in Nashville winning on penalties. Knights have handled pretty much every one who has come to Vegas and I wonder if the Preds have enjoyed a bit of Nye partying in Vegas and come into this game a bit lack lustre.
Kings win- Kings I think might be about to hit another winning stretch, especially as the Oilers are starting to look pretty bad again.
Flyers win- I genuinely think the Pens don’t give a shit anymore about going to the playoffs, they just look bored most games. Flyers have won 4 of their last 5 at home whilst the Pens are a miserable 4 in their last 16 away games. That stat sounds like we are talking about the Coyotes not the Stanley Cup champions of last season. Sure there is a bit of value with the Pens, but I’m not even interested in it at all.

***Update*** – Halak is in goal for Islanders and Raask for Bruins. Even more reason to take Bruins.

Anyway, ballsy to take looking good for me, I would take it with OT, some matches, but the multiplier would be much lower.
I’m just playing it for fun really. If it doesn’t win I’ll live if it does it will be fun. I’m not sure Canucks can win it, and the moment asking them to put in good performances game after game is too much to ask. The Ducks really need to start notching wins and I think they’ll handle the Canucks just fine.
As much as I enjoy watching Nashville play, I might ride the Vegas wave for tonight. Can’t look past their home form.

I have a few leans I’m not going to mention or bet because it’s Game one after New Years and while I expect January and February to produce more motivated teams with the playoff position race starting in earnest, and reasonable results likely more predictable night to night, tonight starts a short stretch that should show us who is going to show up for the playoffs and who are the pretender teams, and I want to see that shake out. So many teams this season are inconsistent, injured or just not talented enough. Thursday of this week, I see even more bets screaming for attention!
Taking to 2 “ucks” tonight to go over. Both teams have scored over 3 goals/gm over the last 5, and Markstrom has been giving up 3.6 over the last 5.

New York Islanders – Boston Bruins (Boston REG)
As pretty much all the other guys I’m going to ride the Boston train as long as they keep preforming. Boston have a solid last 5 games, while Isles could barley win over Sabres in OT, and also lost their last match 6-1 to AVALANCHE. Both Halak and Rask is confrimed, and Rask is playing great at the moment, this is defo going to Bruins unless Isles can issue a miracle their way. I also like over 5.5 in this game.
Philadelphia Flyers – Pittsburgh Penguins (Flyers ML/REG)
So, I know that the Flyers have been looking bad all season, but soo has the Pens. After last loss against the Red Wings I’m not going to play Penguins any time soon. Flyers have been picking up some nice wins lately, and I think they’re going to take the win against the Pens. No major injuires for Flyers, and Letang missing for Pens, this is going to be Flyers all the way baby!
Montreal Canadiens – San Jose Sharks (Sharks ML)
As much as I’d like to back Canadiens I just can’t do it. They’re on a four game loosing-streak. After their last game against Florida , I just cannot see that they’re going to win anytime soon.
Leans:
Canes vs Caps – I dunno but over 5.5 maybe? Two teams that COULD score goals, but could also be a tight one.
Leafs vs Lightning – Over 6.0 just because both teams score loads and loads of goals
Wild vs Panthers – The Panthers are rolling at the moment, but Wild tend to be good at home. Over 5.5 or Wild ML.
Blues vs Devils – Hard game to call anything on tbh. Blues haven’t shown that they’re at their best, so over 5.5 and maybe Devils ML?
Avalanche vs Jets – Jets REG because they’re playing good, over 5.5 is also a strong play
Stars vs Jackets – Over 5.5 all the way + Stars REG. Unsure about Stars reg eventhough they should destory CBJ
Nucks vs Ducks – DUCKS REG AND ML BABY
Knights vs Preds – If Preds get their offence rolling this is going to be a goalfest, and also a thight one. Over 5.5 + small play on Preds ML.

Definitely not on Jets. They have spotty away form at best, and have already lost in Denver this season. Avalanche are very capable, they barely lost to the Lightning and pounded the Isles 6-1… Avalanche are good at home Jets are ‘meh on the road. This is a pass for me.
