Blackhawks vs Oilers Series Prediction
This series is the 5th ranked Oilers vs the 12th ranked Blackhawks. It would seem like it will be an easy series for the Oilers to win. But this is the Blackhawks and they have a way of winning games where they shouldn’t have had a chance.
The Hawks won 2 of the 3 games against the Oilers this season. They have players still there who were part of the 3 Stanley Cups they won in the past. But they did finish in last place in the Central Division, 5 points behind the 6th place Wild. Their best days are behind them.
They have Kane who is as good as anyone in the league. Toews plays great when things are on the line. Kubalik, Debrincat, Strome and Saad are good depth players. Crawford, when healthy, is still a great goalie. But the defense in front of him has dropped from their Cup winning days. Keith isn’t as good as he was when he was a Norris Trophy winning beast. Seabrook hasn’t played in a while and not sure he will.
The Oilers have the top two point getters in the league. Draisaitl and McDavid are incredible and each can take over a game and series by themselves. Nugent-Hopkins and Neal are great secondary players and Kassian is a pain in the ass to play against who can also put up points. In goal they have Smith and Koskinen. Smith is more experienced, Koskinen is the better goalie. They are comfortable giving both equal starts.
The Oilers had the best ranked powerplay and their penalty kill is ranked 2nd. The Hawks weakened defense will have a hard time keeping the high flying Oilers in check. Toews and Kane can still produce but they need help and the players on this squad might not be enough. If this series turns into an offensive series the Oilers win. Special teams, Oilers win. In defense the Oilers have a group that can keep up with the Hawks.
I think the Oilers win the series but the Hawks will win a game, maybe two.
Oilers in 4 Games is my pick. I hope the Hawks can somehow flip a switch and play like they did years ago but I don’t see it happening.
