The Florida Panthers take a big 3-1 series lead back home as they look to wrap up the series, in what was a tight fixture where they really showed their metal. After years of false hope, I gotta admit Panthers are looking like the team to beat for the cup for me.
The Oilers had a nightmare 4-3 loss against the Canucks at home. Whatever happens, the Oilers just aren’t going to win the cup with someone like Skinner in net. Not that it’s all on him – the defense are a big factor too – but he isn’t picking out the big saves that is needed at this level.
Today we have two games with the Rangers, up 3-1, looking to wrap it up. And the Stars, up 2-1, looking to retain home ice with a massive victory in Colorado.
Thoughts:
Rangers vs Canes Game 5 Betting Tips:
Scott: Well the Canes managed to stay alive for another game.
The Canes were up 3-1 after the 1st but the Rangers tied it up early in the 3rd. A late powerplay goal gave the Canes the lead and they held on for the 4-3 win.
With game 5 back in New York I can see the Rangers ending it here as they can’t allow the Canes to build any momentum when game 6 is back in Carolina. On the other hand the Canes finally got a win against them and they know they can beat them and they also handed the Rangers their first loss of these playoffs.

Graeme: One of those series where although our series bets don’t affect anything, it’s mentally tough to get into it a bit more as I have my Rangers to win the series bet at a great price, and I’m happy to just ride that obviously.
Rangers as dogs does jump out a little bit, but it’s hard to really justify based on the data. Despite the results, the Ganes have b een the better side in the advanced metrics pretty much every game. The Canes shut down the Rangers offense on theirh high danger chances in that last game, limiting them to a 7 HDCF and 0 goals.
Basically – yeah, I don’t see much to justify a bet here. I almost would lean Canes just based on the metrics. In a vaccuum, I take Carolina here.

Avalanche vs Stars Game 4 Betting Tips:
Scott: The Stars had a 2-1 lead late in the game, the Avs pulled the goalie to try and catch up but the Stars were able to score on the empty net twice and won 4-1.
This series has saw the Stars take early multi-goal leads and the Avs were able to storm back. This time the Stars only lead by a single goal so the Avs didn’t have a chance to do that.
With this game in Colorado the Avs will need to win a game and they should have to score first and force the Stars to play catch up for a change. They can’t go down 3-1 in the series with game 5 in Dallas.
Avalanche win incl OT
Graeme: Colorado were unfortunate in that last one based on all the advanced metrics. I think yeah they keep playing the way they are they should get the W tonight.

To WIN moneyline: Rangers
Possible Dallas/Avs player props
When looking at the last 10 games of both Carolina and the Rangers combined, 14 of 20 were 1-goal differentials. I can only expect a moneyline win here. When the penalty count was 6 to 12 in this series, the Rangers won. In the most recent game there were only 3 penalties and the Rangers lost. I’d say they’re going back to fast assertive hockey tonight and the Rangers take it. Carolina has 1 win in their last 5 away games.
For the Dallas/Colorado game I’m off a side or O/U bet and may look at some player prop bets, but the whole thing looks unreadable. I figure it will be great close hockey. Colorado must play on fire or for sure they’ll lose badly. Dallas is proving to be fully capable and fully motivated this year. Dallas winning tonight and taking the series wouldn’t surprise me one bit. I see limitations with Colorado I didn’t see the two previous years, when they were all healthy. Dallas has great depth of talent!
