It’s been surprise after surprise in the NHL playoffs, but the Blues domination of the San Jose Sharks in Game 5 was right up there.
The Blues didn’t just win. They came to the Shark Tank and absolutely dominated. Jones was forced to make 35 saves and that still didn’t matter as the Blues ran out 5-0 winners with a hat trick from Jaden Schwartz.
It was a stunning game and one that shocked the hell out of both of us.
It now puts the Sharks on the brink of elimination.
Of course they’ve been there before. But that game was men against boys and it’ll be interesting seeing how they come back from that.

Graeme: That was an excellent performance from the Blues and I’m not sure what went wrong with the Sharks, but it was an utter disaster. The crowd seemed a bit quiet – maybe it was because it was in the afternoon – but the Sharks did start well before fizzling out.
Karlsson is clearly not 100% and that is not helping the team at this point.
This is one where the price dictates it for me though. The Sharks are around 2.45 to 2.50 odds depending on the sportsbook to win including overtime and I think that’s a great little price. Just seems to be a knee jerk reaction to that dominant performance and the fact that the Sharks are a fair bit beat up.
Blues should be favourites but I’d think a more realistic price for the Sharks would be 2.25. I’ll take Sharks to win incl OT for 0.5u in what I feel is a nice value play.
Scott: After game 5 the Sharks will need a better effort to avoid elimination. The Blues looked awesome winning 5-0 and Schwartz scored a hat trick which was his second of these playoffs.
The Sharks have been in this boat before. They had to win in Las Vegas to force a game 7, which they did and won the series. The Sharks are a strong team and need to find a way to pick up the win. I expect a better game from them here.
