Now that was one of the most incredible nights of NHL action that I have ever seen and if you missed it then be sure to watch the highlights.
The Flames and Canucks game was a throwback to the old days. With both coaches sending out their 4th lines to start the game so fireworks were expected and they didn’t disappoint. As soon as the puck was dropped a full on line brawl erupted with everyone one the ice, except the goalies, grabbing a partner and fighting. The results: 2 seconds of play and a combined 152 penalty minutes with 10 fighting majors, four 10-minute misconducts and six game misconducts. At the end of the first period Canucks coach John Tortorella decided to go visit the Flames dressing room and try and fight the Flames coaching staff or anybody who was willing. Things could have been much worse though as Tortorella was restrained along with some of the Flames staff. Just a crazy game between two slumping rivals and what better way to try and end a slump then by beating the shit out of the other team now that’s bonding at its best. Oh ya a game was actually played and the Canucks won 3-2 in a shootout.
The Sharks vs Lightning game was the Marty St Louis vs Joe Pavelski show. Determined to show the team Canada brass that they made a mistake leaving him off of the Olympic roster, the ageless St Louis scored 4 goals in 22 minutes, just incredible. But Pavelski and the Sharks came to play also. A natural hat trick in the third period was Pavelski’s answer as the Sharks came back for a 5-4 victory.
Some other notes from last night’s action: Jets rookie d-man Jacob Trouba scored a shorthanded goal in the third and the game winner in OT in the Jets 3-2 win. The Flyers came back from a 2-0 deficit to win 6-4 against the Islanders. A back and forth game was eventually won by the Leafs 5-3 over the Habs. The Ducks held off the late game push by the Blues winning 3-2. A controversial goal by the Red Wings pushed the game to OT and eventually a shootout where the Wings won 3-2. It seemed each and every game was worthy of game of the night.
Jan won our 3rd place in our December contest with an incredible 10 correct picks yesterday. Very impressive! We will be in contact shortly to get you your prize.
Today we have only 3 games on but that’s ok as the NFL has two huge games taking place with the winners moving on to the Super Bowl.
.
Only 3 games but 3 big games: Bruins vs Hawks, Lightning vs Hurricanes and Capitals vs Rangers.
Here are the NHL Tips for Sunday, January 19th
Capitals vs Rangers: Capitals win
The Caps are in 9th place in the East thanks to a 4 game losing streak and in desperate need of a win. The Rangers have completely turned around their terrible start to the year, are on a 2 game winning streak and are 4 games over .500.
The Rangers are on fire but you can never count out the Caps. They are much better than their record would suggest. They are rested after having last night off where the Rangers played and won against the Sens.
This will be a close game but for value alone we have to back the Caps here.

Lightning vs Hurricanes: Under 5.5 Goals
Do the Lightning have anything left in the tank after yesterday’s goal fest?
Both teams played yesterday so they come into this on even ground but you have to think that goals will be harder to come by today.

Bruins vs Blackhawks: Goal before 9:30
This is a rematch of last year’s Stanley Cup final where if you missed it the Blackhawks came out on top and this guy loved it!!
No idea how today’s game will end but you know both teams will come out swinging in this one and will try and get on the board early to try and take control of the game.
Both are rested after days off with both teams last game a victory: the Bruins beat the Stars and the Hawks beat the Ducks
