The NHL East Division is a hell of a division.
It features the Boston Bruins, Philadelphia Flyers, Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins to name just a few.
Those 4 teams made up the top 5 of the Eastern Conference last year. Then you have the Islanders in there who made it to the conference finals.
In this article I will be covering each team and their chances of winning the East Division, as well as listing the best odds if you wish to place a bet on the New Jersey Devils to take it all down.
NHL East Division Winners 2020/21 Betting Odds:

NHL East Division 2020/21 Team Betting Analysis:
Boston Bruins:
The Bruins had the best record last season in both the Eastern Conference and the league.
They still have Bergeron and Marchand and will get Pastrnak back in February. After that top line they have Krejci, DeBrusk, Kase, Coyle and others.
On defense they will be without Chara who is now a member of the Washington Capitals. But they are still in good shape there with McAvoy, Grzelcyk and Carlo.
In goal the still have the same tandem from last season with Rask the starter and Halak the backup. They will be challenging for top spot in East Divison all season.

Philadelphia Flyers:
The Flyers always seem like a team thats ready to take the next step and this year is no different.
They have talent and depth at each position. At forward they are led by Giroux, Couturier, Lindblom, Konecny, Voracek, van Reimsdyk, Patrick and more.
On defense they have put together a strong crew who could be the best in the league in the near future. Provorov, Gostisbehere, Myers, Sanheim form a strong top 4.
In goal Hart is the goalie for the Flyers for the future. He has Elliott to back him up
No weaknesses here and they could challenge for top spot this year.

Washington Capitals:
The Capitals still have Ovechkin so they will be a competitive team. Ovie is joined by Oshie, Wilson, Kuznetsov, Vrana, Backstrom, Eller, Sheary and Panik to give them a strong top 9.
On defense they have Carlson, Orlov, Dillon and Schultz for their top 4, Chara and van Reimsdyk or Kempney as the bottom pair.
Another team that could challenge for top spot in the loaded East Divison. It’s their depth that has me taking the Washington Capitals to win the East Divison

Pittsburgh Penguins:
Yet another strong team in the East Divison.
When you have Crosby and Malkin you are going to be a tough team to beat. Joining them is Guentzel, Zucker, Kapanen, Rust and others.
On Defense they are led by Letang. After him though there isn’t enough help. Dumoulin, Marino, Matheson and Ceci are going to have to find a way.
In goal the have Jarry who will be backed up by DeSmith.
On paper they don’t look as strong as other years but again Crosby and Malkin could carry them to the top of the standings

New York Rangers:
Well the Rangers weren’t supposed to be very good last season but they did manage to get to the playoffs and still secured the top pick in the NHL draft.
This team has a lot of good young pieces to build around.
Panarin, Zibanejad, Strome, Kakko and Lafreniere are all young and have a bright future ahead of them. DeAngelo, Fox, Trouba and K’Andre Miller are all young defensemen.
In goal they have two quality youngsters in Shesterkin and Georgiev. All of the pieces are there and in the next couple of seasons I expect the Rangers to be a powerhouse.

New York Islanders:
The Islanders had a decent season last year but I’m not sure they will have the same success this year.
Barzal is good and will only get better. But they didn’t really add anyone to help them offensively.
There defense is adequate but not one that will scare off the teams that they will be playing this year .
Varlamov is their starter and Sorokin will finally get his chance in the NHL. They also have Schneider as a third string if Sorokin isn’t quite ready.

Buffalo Sabres:
The Sabres are ranked pretty low here and I think they will have decent year but with the teams in this division it’s going to be tough.
Eichel is incredible and they added Hall who is going to be playing for his next contract so I expect a big year from him. They also have Staal, Olofsson, Reinhart, Skinner, Mittelstadt and Cousins.
On defense the have Dahlin, McCabe, Ristolainen and Montour. In goal they use Ullmark and Hutton.
Like the Rangers, they are going to be a strong team in the near future just not right now.

New Jersey Devils:
They have some young players who are going to have long and successful careers. Hughes and Hischier are still young and have yet to reach their primes. Throw in Zajac, Palmieri, Johnsson and Zacha and you have a decent top 6. It’s the bottom 6 where they will have problems.
They have Subban, Murray, Butcher and Vatanen so they have a good start. They could use another strong defenseman to play with Subban though.
They picked up Crawford but he just recently retired. So in goal it’s Blackwood and Wedgewood. Definitely need to do some work back there. In this strong East Divison I see the Devils at the bottom.
