One of the biggest upsets of the NHL season took place last night, as the Buffalo Sabres defeated the San Jose Sharks in a shootout. What a game. The Sharks were 1.23 favourites at the bookies for that one, yet you wouldn’t know it watching the game. Buffalo put in a fantastic performance and almost beat the Sharks in regulation and looked a completely different team than they usually do.
Of course the Sharks should have won in OT but that happens. People will rant about it for a few days and then forget all about it.
That’s hockey though – and sports in general. Upsets happen, and they make it that much more exciting. Although frustrating from a betting perspective.
We had a push last night in the Canucks game, as we had the Canucks +1 and they went to the shootout so we got the stake back there at least.

Penguins vs Rangers: Penguins to Win
The New York Rangers picked up 3 wins in a row but they’re going against the Pittsburgh Penguins who are on their own 4-game streak and have been performing great including the 2 big wins against the Blue Jackets. Penguins have been very dominant and looked amazing in the 3-0 win over Columbus.
We’re getting more favourable odds than we should here at 1.66 odds for the Penguins to win. Have to take that.
Analysis of Other Games:
That’s our only tip for the night however we also will offer some analysis of the other games. We just didn’t see anything worth betting.
Blackhawks vs Jets: On the surface the Blackhawks -1.5 appears good after Chicago blew the Jets away in Winnipeg just a couple of days ago. But Chicago have been very topsy-turvy when it comes to games. Winnipeg are also a team that you just can’t count them out. They’ve did a great job of keeping games close and it could go either way.
Ducks vs Coyotes: Just no value here. Anaheim are doing awesome this season but the Coyotes have been on a surge of their own. If anything we’d lean towards the Coyotes at 2.45 odds but we aren’t confident enough in them to back it.
Predators vs Avalanche: Colorado is 1.5 odds here which is too low. Avalanche should win this but not enough for value there. Predators seem to play better against teams running hot and their power play is getting better. Rinne being out is a loss. We think Avs should win this but the 1.5 odds make it not worth the bet.
