Quite the night of action last night in the NHL.
We lost our play of the Capitals beating the Jets. As is standard the Jets started very slow with just 2 shots on net in the first period. Unfortunately if you don’t bury them early they come back to haunt you and they did so by tieing it up in the 2nd then taking a lead late with a very lucky goal then wrapping it up with an empty netter. At the odds it was still probably the right play but just didn’t work out.
Blackhawks stopped their skid with a surprise shutout of the St. Louis Blues as they won 1-0. Knights gave the Ducks a good ol thrashing and the Avs/Bruins put up a 9 goal thriller with a massive 4 goal period by the Avs in the third to wrap it up.
Nine games on the board tonight. Panthers are riding a 5 game winning streak – something I was completely unaware of ha. Had to double check when I saw that one. They’re hoping to make it six against the Jackets.
The Battle of New York takes place with the Rangers vs Islanders. Red Wings are another surprise team as they hope to turn their 4 game winning streak into 5 as they visit Ottawa. Preds are on a 2 game skid and hope to turn it around against Coyotes.
Should be an interesting night of hockey. A lot of potential plays and curious to see what you guys in the comments all have. In the meantime we’re going with:
Rangers vs Islanders Betting Tips:
The Islanders have been the much better team in the recent battles between these two with 9 wins in their last 10. They’re favoured tonight.
Their offense has been doing the business for the majority of their season and Greiss hasn’t been too shabby either.
One thing about the Rangers however is they have been competitive. Their recent performances have been excellent too and considering their recent record against the Islanders – I think that gives them extra motivation tonight.

Penguins vs Lightning Betting Tips:
Why exactly is this a coinflip?
The Penguins are still a mess. I was curious about them and spent some time looking at a lot of metrics during their 5 game slump there and I came to the conclusion that it isn’t an anomaly – if I am correct we’re going to see a poor Penguins team floating around .500 all season and there is a good chance they go below that.
Tampa have lost their last two to the Ottawa Senators and Buffalo Sabres. Tampa have a few issues but I’d like to think they show up here against the Penguins. Crosby is out too. Domingue in net but he isn’t too bad and with Vas out for a bit it should take some pressure off him. If we see one of those “oh our star player is out lets rally” performances from the Pens so be it.
Tampa finished the Buffalo game strong and I like them to carry that in here. 1u on Tampa to win incl OT/SO.

Flames vs Canadiens Betting Tips:
Flames offense has been sleeping the last couple of games but they do seem to do that on occasion. As they go back to the Saddledome I like their offense to show up tonight. You can usually count on them.
Habs like I’ve said before it’s all about their offense right now. Coming off that Oilers loss where they looked off, I think they’ll be more settled and ready to pressure the Flames tonight.
Very close to a 2u play on this one honestly. The slackness of the Flames offense is the only thing putting me off.

Coyotes vs Predators Betting Tips:
Preds are on a slump and haven’t won in regulation in three games. But a “slump” for the Preds isn’t that bad. Tight losses to a Sharks team who are hot and cold but when they’re hot they’re excellent, and a 2-1 loss to a Ducks team who are the hardest side to figure out this year. They will randomly show up for games like that and everything just clicks.
They beat a tough Dallas Stars team at home and that’s impressive. I’m digging the Coyotes this season but I think the Preds bounce back tonight.
