The Sabres excellent run finally came to an end.
They fought damn hard with some clinical finishing but the Tampa Bay Lightning deservedly won and brought the streak to an end.
It’s always interesting seeing how a team does after a long winning streak like that. The Sabres have no rest as they play the hard working Florida Panthers tonight. I really hope they bounce back fast.
I don’t even know what to say about that Preds result yesterday. Completely at a loss on that one.
Good to see the Knights now rack up 5 wins in a row as they’re sorting stuff out and I hope it continues. Great to see Pacioretty hammer them in.
How about those Rangers? We had been flirting with the over on that one yesterday and I’m glad we didn’t take it as they just decided to take the night off. Crazy game.
Flames vs Kings Betting Tips:
I can’t believe I’m going to bet the Calgary Flames BECAUSE of Mike freaking Smith.
Smith is having a bad season. The 36 year old has a 6-7-0 record. GAA of 3.29, save percentage of .883. Not exactly the type of thing that strikes fear into opponents.
However he is named the starter tonight and Peters was talking him up huge. Apparently he had an amazing practice. A motivated goalie is always huge and it sounds like Smith is ready to come out and show a rarely seen beast mode.
Kings aren’t clinical finishers either. A 2.46 xGF/60 but a GF/60 of 2.15. A low CF/60. And quite honestly they’re a bad team this season. They’re struggling a lot and there has only been a couple of games where they have looked good.
Flames at home are usually excellent other than that Stars game and I think they should bounce back strong.

Avs vs Blues Betting Tips:
It always concerns me to back a team like the Avs where they rely on their top line so much, but these guys are giving it their all. Mike Sullivan said the other night it’s the best line he has seen all season and I’ve got to agree. They’re so consistent too.
Let’s hope this isn’t a night for complacency. One of those games where you’re basically betting on one line producing more than anything else. Although the Blues have so many issues at the moment that I’m fine with that. They’re easing Steen back in and I just hope he doesn’t turn things around for them tonight.

Other Game Thoughts:
Sabres vs Panthers: Sabres were close to a play at 2.30 odds – that is a nice price considering their quality – but who knows what happens now they finally lost. Plus I think the Panthers will be up for this one and are considering it a must win game.
Devils vs Capitals: Very close to taking the Caps. Kuznetsov is returning which is often good but also you never know. Ovi missed practise – just a maintenance day they said but always a wee bit concerning. Johansson might be back for the Devils. Neither team has played since Monday – sometimes a bit of rustiness settles in there. Just one of those games with enough questions I want to stay away.
Hurricanes vs Ducks: Was very close to taking the Ducks but the moms trip is over with and when I’m diving into the advanced metrics, Canes always scare me. It got to the point when looking to see if I could justify a play on the Ducks to win at that price I came away with it wanting to tip Canes -1.5 instead. They’re riding McElhinney hard though so I’ll stay away.
