The Edmonton Oilers blew the Florida Panthers away 8-1 in the critical Game 4 of the Stanley Cup finals. I was sooooo close to tipping Oilers -6.5 as well! Can’t believe I chickened out and only took the OT win.
The question is will it be a resurgence for the Oilers? Or is it just a gentleman’s sweep? We saw similar in the Celtics vs Mavs series in the NBA. Hopefully the NHL scriptwriters have a more exciting finish planned.
Here are our thoughts in what could be the final game:
Scott: The Oilers weren’t going to get swept at home. Their big dogs came to play. McDavid scored his first of the finals and added 3 assists, breaking the NHL record with 32 assists in a single postseason, Draisaitl and Hyman both had 2 assists and Nurse and Nugent-Hopkins both scored. They forced Bobrovsky from the game after he allowed 5 goals on 16 shots.
It does sting for the Panthers to not complete the sweep but they now have a chance to win their first Stanley Cup at home. I know that after the way game 4 went the Oilers will have the much needed momentum but the Panthers can’t allow this series to go to 6 games with that one being back in Edmonton. They need to get this done and go back to doing what they have done up until this point.
I picked the Pathers to win the series so I’ll keep taking them to win until it happens including OT.
Graeme: I was able to nail the Oilers win in Game 4.
At this point, I’m personally fine with tapping out on betting in this series. I’m just not seeing any opportunities or angles.
The Oilers with that win now are beating the panthers in pretty much every stat across the board. Funny how one game can change it. The only one they arent is high danger goals.
By the numbers, Oilers are a good play again. But sometimes games and scenarios transcend numbers and this is one of those times.
No Bet. If Oilers win here I may consider them in Game 6.
Edmonton Hyman to score +145
Edmonton Hyman Over 3.5 Shots +135
Edmonton Bouchard Over 2.5 Shots -145
Florida Forsling to score +750
Same Game Parlay Both to Score Reinhart and Draisaitl +597
More on the entertainment side of things with these bets. While I have a future on Florida to win the cup, I see no value on them at the current price. If anything I would roll the dice on Edmonton at +136. A Florida win would not shock me here by any means, but I feel the value is currently on Edmonton.
Most of my prop bets are on Edmonton. But that’s in large part to me having difficulty narrowing down Florida player selections.A concern would be the lopsided nature of the last game. We could see a much better effort from Florida here, resulting in most of these not cashing.
Lump on panthers ML. Let’s go. Who’s with me?
